RIVERHEAD RACEWAY
SET TO HOST NASCAR FMS CARS AND STARS AUGUST 3RD.
The second and
final visit for the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series will unfold
at the historic quarter mile oval on Saturday night August 3rd with
promoters Barbara and Jim Cromarty posting a $64,625 purse for the
Riverhead 200
Ted Christopher of Plainville, Ct. will
be looking to complete the Riverhead sweep in this race after
winning the Miller Lite 200 in June.
To say the Miller
Lite 200 had plenty of fireworks would be an understatement as
Christopher wrestling his car around the track with a broken torque
arm in the rear end assembly was in the right place at the right
time. While racing for the lead FMS veteran Rick Fuller of Auburn,
Ma and J.R. Bertuccio got together when the latter tried to use a
lapped car as a pick, sending both into a spin. "TC" was
racing in third figuring that was a good enough run with the
handicap his Mystique Motorsports entry was racing with, when all of
a sudden he found himself the new race leader and eventual winner.
Aside from Ted
Christopher among those regulars from the FMS to watch in the 200
lap grind will include Jerry Marquis of Broad Brook, Ct., who was
runner-up to Christopher in June and John Blewett III of Howell,
N.J. the third place finisher on that night. Of course Rick Fuller
feels as though Riverhead might owe him a win and never count out
"Mighty" Mike Stefanik of Coventry, R.I. who won both FMS
stops in 2001.
J.R. Bertuccio,
who won the Bud Pole for the June race will be back and looking to
grab the gold to become the first Riverhead regular since Ed
Brunnhoelzl Jr. turned the trick in 1995. Brunnhoelzl of Levittown
is also expected to be on hand as will Bill Park of Manorville and
Joe Hartmann of Riverhead. All of these Riverhead regulars could
play a big role in the Riverhead 200.
Joining the FMS
Modifieds will be the Charger and Blunderbust divisions from the
weekly Riverhead Raceway NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by
Dodge. The qualifying heats for those classes will go green at 4:30
pm, with the FMS time trials set for approximately 5:45 pm. The two
Riverhead main events will be presented starting at 6:30 pm, with
the Riverhead 200 to follow.
