2003
SCHEDULE TO BE RELEASED AT BANQUET
While Riverhead Raceway promoters
Barbara and Jim Cromarty are honoring the champions of the 2002
NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge this Saturday night,
those in attendance at the banquet will get an exclusive look at the
2003 schedule. The 2003 slate will once again be action packed with
some exciting new twists.
After the two tradition
pre-season practice sessions on April 12th & 19th, the 2003
NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge will open for
business on April 26th. The NASCAR Modifieds will again highlight
the weekly card of racing at the quarter mile oval and they will go
to the post in 19 point paying events. As has been the norm each
class at Riverhead will contest three double point races during the
season and the NASCAR Modifieds will do so on May 3rd, May 31st with
the final double point race falling on July 5th. All of those races
are 50-lap, time trial contests and the class will run a 75-lap
event on the final night of racing.
The NASCAR Featherlite Modified
Series will pay a visit to Riverhead twice in 2003 for 200-lap
events on Saturday June 7th and again on August 2nd.
The Late Model class will have
one of their busier seasons in recent memory, as they will race in
18 events in 2003. Their three double points paying races will fall
on May 17th, June 14th and the final will be held on September 6th.
All three are 50-lap, time trial races. Gone from the LM slate in
2003 will be their 75-lap, non-points race in late September, as
well the 2002 six race mini-series.
Those "world famous"
Figure Eight stock cars will race in 17 points paying feature events
in 2003, with their three double point races set for May 17th, June
14th and August 16th. Owners and drivers in the class will be
thrilled to find out they will again be part of the National
Championship program for the Demolition Derby troops on Saturday,
September 20th. A 25-lap, non-point race will be staged.
Charger action will again thrill
the Riverhead faithful some scheduled 17 times for point paying
feature events. Double points will be offered on May 10th, June 21st
and August 16th. Of course the class will conclude its 2003
performance on the season ending 50-lap, non-points race on
September 20th.
Another busy season is in store
for the Blunderbust corps who will hit the track in 19 point paying
main events in 2003, with the three double point races set for April
26th, May 24th and August 2nd. A new twist to the Blunderbust season
will be two Sunday afternoon appearances on July 20th and August
31st.
The "tail gate brigade"
Super Pro Trucks will go head-to-head 16 times in 2003, which will
find them in two Sunday afternoon shows on May 25th and August 31st.
The Super Pro Trucks will get a chance at time trials on September
20th for their final point race of the year.
The cars and stars of the
Riverhead Raceway Enduro series will have the usual seven programs
in 2003. Enduro action will be presented on April 27th, May 25th,
June 22nd, July 20th, August 10th $31st and the final Enduro show
will once again be on a Saturday evening, September 27th. Two Enduro
classes will get to strut their stuff on Saturday night in 2003, as
the 4/6 Cylinder Trucks will race June 21st, while the Ladies will
race on July 19th. The annual Invitational Enduro will unfold on
September 27th.
Perhaps the most noticeable
change to the annual Riverhead schedule comes where the School Bus
events are concerned. The full sized School Buses will race two
Figure Eight races on July 12th and again August 9th. The big busses
will then be crashed in two School Bus Demo's the first of which is
August 16th and then on September 20th.
Totally new will be events for
the Small School Buses who'll be in action twice during the season,
first for a Figure Eight race on June 28th and then for a Demolition
Derby on July 29th.
Four Demolition Derby's have been
set for 2003 with the first set for May 24th and then again on July
5th, August 30th and the National Championship event on September
20th. The 4/6 Cylinder Demolition Derby will unfold on August 23rd.
Two spectacular Fireworks shows
will be presented; one on July 5th and again an I Love America
Night, August 23rd. The Hollywood Stunt Show will return in 2003 for
a doubleheader weekend on July 19th & 20th, while the 2nd annual
Night of Thrills, highlighting our own Slim Jim Donaldson, will take
place on July 26th. The wildly popular Monster trucks will be back
over the Labor Day Weekend in 2003 and again be highlighted by the
appearance of Bigfoot. The September 11th Memorial will be presented
On September 13th.
The entire 2003 NASCAR Weekly
racing Series presented by Dodge Riverhead Raceway schedule will be
printed in the Riverhead Racer awards banquet edition available this
Saturday night November 9th at the Melville Marriott.
