RIVERHEAD
RACEWAY APPOINTS NEW CHIEF STEWARD FOR 2003
Barbara and Jim
Cromarty, owners and promoters of Riverhead Raceway, announced today
that veteran Long Island race official Bill Denniston has been
appointed to the position of Chief Steward for 2003.
While the naming of Denniston as Chief Steward may come as a
surprise to some, it was an easy choice for the Cromarty's.
"Aside from his 30-plus years of experience nobody besides
ourselves loves Riverhead Raceway and auto racing in general more
than Bill Denniston," the Cromarty's commented. "Bill has
done more behind the scenes to help us improve our facility and the
manner in which the show is run in the last two years than others
have done in a lifetime," Barbara and Jim concluded.
Indeed among the projects Denniston and the Cromarty's have tackled
together were to improve the access road, front parking lot as well
portions of the rear parking area. For 2003 they plan on
refurbishing the turn two billboard area and surrounding section,
among other projects.
Denniston has a vast background in stock car racing on Long Island
going back to his days at the Freeport Speedway, as well as Islip
Speedway and the Race of Champions. Aside from his newest position
Bill is also the owner of Trailer Transport, JYD Enterprises and
president of the Eastern Kart Racing Association. With the new title
of Chief Steward added to his busy race day it is expected Mike
Cass, his partner with JYD Enterprises, will take a more active role
with that Hoosier Tire business.
Bill and his wife Ellen, who also handles the JYD Enterprises end of
the business have two children John and Erin and reside in Westbury,
Long Island.
Denniston indicated that he would announce the dates for the Winter
Informational meeting in the near future.
