PRE-SEASON TESTING SET FOR RIVERHEAD RACEWAY APRIL 12TH & 19TH

    Now that "old man winter" has hopefully gasped his final breath of 2003 all eyes are anticipating spring and summer and on Long Island that translates into the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series at Riverhead Raceway. Prior to the opening day weekend of April 26th and 27th Barbara and Jim Cromarty will host two pre-season test sessions at the quarter mile speed path on Saturday April 12 and again on April 19th starting at 12:00 noon.

    Whoever tells you nothing in life is free anymore does not realize that the two pre-season test sessions carry free grandstand admission. The two practice sessions are a fantastic opportunity for fans to bring out their cameras and camcorders and capture the sleek machines that will do battle all season. For car owners and drivers the test sessions serve an even greater purpose as they try to find the right set-up to carry them to victory lane or perhaps a track title in 2003.

    Chief Steward Bill Denniston indicated that the NASCAR stock cars will practice from 12 noon to approximately 4:30 pm at which point the track will then be turned over to the Enduro competitors as they ready for their Sunday April 27th lid-lifter. The pit gates will swing open at 9:00 am on April 12th and 19th for safety technical inspection and competitors are reminded that no car will hit the track without a sticker indicating the machine has passed safety tech.

    To avoid the long safety technical inspection lines that commonly occur on the pre-season practice sessions, owners and drivers need to note that the track will offer inspection dates on Saturday March 28th, Sunday March 29th and Saturday April 5th from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm. The Hoosier Tire staff will also be on hand with tires for all six NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series divisions. Janet DeBello will be on hand all three dates with NASCAR License applications in an effort to alleviate long lines in that area as well.

    After all the inspections and practice has been completed Barbara and Jim Cromarty will usher in the 2003 race season with Opening Day Weekend Saturday April 26th and Sunday April 27th.

    Saturday evening April 26th finds the NASCAR season opener with six divisions in action headed up by the ground pounding NASCAR Modifieds. The Late Models, Figure Eights, Chargers, Blunderbusts and Super Pro Trucks will join them. Qualifying commences at 4:30 pm and feature even racing will go green at 6:30 pm. The festivities will continue Sunday afternoon April 27th at 12:30 pm with the Opening Day for the Enduro race series with Full Size Enduros to be joined by 4 Cylinder Enduro racing, 4/6 Cylinder Truck Enduros and a Car Rollover Contest and One On One Spectator Drags.
