RIVERHEAD
RACEWAY SET FOR BUSY OPENING WEEKEND APRIL 26th & 27th
After
a long tough winter it's once again time to go racing at
Barbara and Jim Cromarty's Riverhead Raceway and the husband
and wife team are bringing in the new season in a big way with
an opening weekend doubleheader on tap. Saturday April 26th
will find the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series opener unfold with a
six division card, with Sunday afternoon April 27th ringing in
a new year of Enduro racing at the quarter mile oval.
Of the six divisional champions in
2002 it appears five will defend their championships in 2003.
J.R. Bertuccio of Centereach will be gunning for his second
straight NASCAR Modified title, as will Scott Kulesa of
Calverton in the Late Models. Tom Rogers Jr. of Patchogue is
set to defend his Figure Eight crown, as will Rusty Turbush in
the Chargers and Danny Grennan in the Super Pro Trucks. The
only 2002 champion not running a full slate as of press time
will be Blunderbust champ Eugene Malverty of Lindenhurst, who
will run select shows with a 2004 Charger effort in the
offering.
The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series will
run from April 26th until September 13th and once again
Riverhead Raceway will be placed in the New England Region.
It's from our region that the past two NASCAR Dodge Weekly
Series National Champions have come, with Ted Christopher
taking the title in 2001 and Pete Daniels in 2002.
In addition to the great heart
pounding NASCAR stock car racing presented weekly, Barbara and
Jim Cromarty once again have loaded up the 2003 season with
great family entertainment values. Among those shows are
the Monster Trucks, Fireworks, Train Races, School Bus Races
and Demolition Derbies with both full size and mini school
buses and The Hollywood Stunt Show. August 23rd will be I Love
America night with Clowns on hand for young and old alike and
September 13th will again serve as the September 11th
Memorial.
Race teams will be busy on April 12th
and April 19th as those two Saturdays serve as the dates for
pre-season testing from 12 noon until 4:30 pm. The NASCAR
stock cars will shake down their machines at that time and
afterwards the Enduro stars will have the track for testing.
Saturday night April 26th the first
official race of 2003 will take the green flag with heat races
at 4:30 pm and the feature events to commence at 6:30 pm for
the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series. The Sunday April 27th action
will roll off at 12:30 pm.
