LATE
MODEL THUNDER TO ROAR IN 2003
Tight
close competition has long been the byword, which describes
the weekly Late Model racing at Riverhead Raceway, and the
2003 season will be no exception. Late Model thunder will once
again roar at the quarter mile oval starting with the year's
first 25-lap feature event on opening night Saturday April
26th.
Scott Kulesa won the 2002 Late Model
title at Barbara and Jim Cromarty's historic facility, but if
the 23 year old physical therapy major at Northeastern
University is going to repeat he'll again have to deal with a
roster full of cagey veterans.
Among them will be Roger Oxee who
became the all-time leading winner in the class during 2002
who hopes to grab an elusive first ever track title during the
campaign. Former four time LM champion Peter "Buzzy"
Eriksen also has vast experience and should be considered a
contender.
After a strong second half in 2002
Glenn Tyler should be in the title hunt this season, as will
Greg Kleila, Mike Mortimer, Kevin Metzger and Shawn Patrick.
Many teams over the past few seasons
have burst onto the Late Model scene and should be strong in
'03, among them are Doug Wholey, Jim Pape, Anthony DeMonte,
Chris Mangels, Jarrod Hayes, Keith Rotzi and Walter DeMorris.
Seeking to race in their first full
campaign in the class will be Joe Paschitti, Darryl Baker,
Andy Lokkberg Dave Brigati and Eddie Stein.
So when you hear that rumble of
thunder during 2003 at Riverhead Raceway don't look towards
the sky, rather check out the hot racing action the Late
Models will be providing.
Joining the Late Models on opening
night at Riverhead will be the NASCAR Modifieds, Figure
Eights, Chargers, Blunderbusts and Super Pro Trucks. Heat
racing will start at 4:30 pm and feature event racing goes
green at 6:30 pm.
