MILLER LITE 200
CANCELLED DUE TO HEAVY RAIN
Rain moved across Long Island at 9:30 am
Saturday forcing Riverhead Raceway promoters Barbara and Jim
Cromarty and NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series officials no
choice but to cancel the Miller Lite 200. With a heavy FMS
schedule as well as a busy Riverhead Raceway slate the race
will not be made up.
The rain that arrived in the morning
stuck around all day in Riverhead and the surrounding area and
did not let up until nearly 10:00 PM. The Miller Lite
sponsorship of the $64,675 contest will now transfer to the
August 2nd 200 lap event for the FMS. That race had no title
sponsor as of Saturday.
The wash out marks the third
consecutive Saturday the races were put on hold and the fourth
overall rain-out in 2003, a far cry from the 2002 season that
found no Saturday evening races being lost to weather.
Try, try again and that’s what
Riverhead Raceway will do this Saturday June 14th with the
twice rained-out Demolition Derby joining the NASCAR Dodge
Weekly Series program. A 50 lap double point Late Model
feature along with a 25-lap, double point Figure Eight feature
will be joined by the NASCAR Modifieds, Chargers and Super Pro
Trucks. Also on the card will be a Train Race and One On One
Spectator Drags.
Time trials for the Late Models will
go green at 4:30 PM and feature event racing will begin at
6:00 PM, one half hour earlier due to the busy night on tap.
