SCHOOL BUS FIGURE EIGHT RACE SET FOR JUNE 28TH AT RIVERHEAD
Barbara
and Jim Cromarty wanted to give the kids something to really
cheer about at Riverhead Raceway on Saturday evening June 28th
besides school closing. That evening they'll present a
Mini-School Bus Figure Eight race along with a full card of
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racing on Donaldsons VW night.
After successful events the past two
seasons with the Full Size School Buses the Cromarty's decided
to include the mini bus events. The Mini School Buses
will cross the dangerous "X" at the middle of the
quarter mile oval while dicing for the victory. After
completing racing on June 28th, they'll then be crashed in a
Demolition Derby on July 26th. The Full Size School Buses will
spring into action on July 12th with a Figure Eight race of
their own.
All five-feature event winners will
receive Donaldsons Volkswagen trophies, which the Sayville
based dealership will present. Donaldsons has provided
Riverhead Raceway with a pace car since 1989 and in 2003
"The Smart Choice" has given the track a VW Beetle
convertible to use for the season. In action will be the
NASCAR Modifieds, Late Models, Figure Eights, Chargers and
Blunderbusts.
It will be a special night for the
Figure Eight class, as they will run in the annual Ernie
Maynor Memorial sponsored by Barrasso & Sons Mason
Supplies of East Islip. Roger Maynor of Bay Shore, son of the
late Figure Eight pioneer Ernie Maynor won the 2002 edition of
the contest. Roger hopes to repeat in 2003, but Tom Rogers Jr.
who won the first three races in 2003 will be out for the
Maynor Memorial trophy, as will Mike Mujsce, George Sprague,
Tom Kraft, Kenny Hyde and Bill Steen.
The Blunderbusts will race on Gliptone
Car Care night as the seasonal sponsor for the class is
saluted for their support. Aside from awarding the winner of
the race the Gliptone Car Care Hardware, the firm will have a
display in the turn three midway area.
Action will get underway at 4:30 PM
with heat races while the feature events will take the green
at 6:30 PM June 28th. For further information please contact
