WEEKEND A WASHOUT FOR
RIVERHEAD
It
was a lost weekend on Long Island this past Saturday and
Sunday as persistent rain both days wiped out the racing
action at Barbara and Jim Cromarty's Riverhead Raceway. The
scheduled Enduro card for Sunday will be made up this Sunday
afternoon June 29th, while the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series
program from Saturday will not be made up.
The Saturday night rain out marks the
fifth time weather has put a stop to the racing in nine
scheduled dates for the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series. Aside from
the economic effect the wet weather has had this season, it
also has hurt two point leaders at the quarter mile facility.
Going into this past weekend NASCAR Modified point leader J.R.
Bertuccio led the New England Region of the NASCAR Dodge
Weekly Series, while Late Model point leader Peter Eriksen
held the top spot for the NASCAR ShortTrack Series. Each
driver needs a minimum of 18 starts before the NASCAR Dodge
Weekly Series ends the weekend of September 20th and 21st
leaving Riverhead Raceway 3 races short in the NASCAR
Modifieds. The Late Models will be four shy of that
number as of now and that is not counting in any more rain.
The Craftsman Tools night and the
Trailer Transport night from this past Saturday will move to
this week June 28th, as will the 30-lap Charger feature that
pays double points. The Eagle Chevrolet night will be
rescheduled for later in the season.
Fans should note time trials for the
Chargers will move to 4:00 pm this Saturday night and the
features will go green at 6:00 pm.
