PIVOTAL
CROMARTY CUP 50 SET FOR RIVERHEAD MODIFIEDS SATURDAY
Annually
the Cromarty Cup 50 NASCAR Modified race run in conjunction
with the track's annual Independence Day Fireworks Spectacular
is a pivotal race in determining the Riverhead Raceway
champion. With five NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series program
rained-out to date at Barbara and Jim Cromarty's quarter mile
facility the 2003 edition takes on even more importance.
With just four races run prior to June
28th the Cromarty Cup 50 could very well be just the sixth
race of the season, meaning drivers have earned minimal
points. That also translates into fewer points between
positions and could mean the double point race on July 5th
could really shuffle the point standings in the top ten and
even twenty.
Going into the June 28 card J.R.
Bertuccio who won three of the four races run to date had a
32-point bulge on Frank Vigliarolo Jr. but that could very
well change one way or another after the Cromarty Cup 50. John
Fortin, Ed Brunnhoelzl Jr., Chuck Steuer Joe Hartmann, Tom
Rogers Jr., Mike Andrews, Lenny Fischer and Wayne Anderson
rank third through tenth as of press time and they could
improve their standings.
Rounding out the NASCAR Dodge Weekly
Series portion of the show will be the "world
famous" Figure Eights, Chargers and Blunderbusts, all of
whom will run 20-lap main events.
Of course the highlight of the July
5th slate is the annual Fireworks presentation presented by
world renowned Zambelli International Pyrotechnics who'll
light up the night sky with a thunderous and colorful display
accompanied by some fantastic, exciting music.
Tradition also dictates that the
Independence Day program will end with a car destroying and
bone jarring Demolition Derby and that will be the case on
July 5th. With the first scheduled Demo of 2003 rained out
three times and eventually canceled this will be the first
event of 2003 and the drivers should be revved up for this
one!
Time trials for the NASCAR Modifieds
will go green at 4:30 pm with feature events to roll off at
6:30 pm.
