TOMMY WALKOWIAK SUNDAY
BLUNDERBUST WINNER AT RIVERHEAD
The Blunderbust division made their
Sunday debut at Riverhead Raceway this past week and in a
30-lap, double point main event Tommy "Wild Child"
Walkowiak of Middle Village scored an impressive victory.
Thirty-five cars turned out to try and qualify for the 25 car
field.
Russell Broy bolted into the early
lead of the tilt with Jason Carpenter chasing him for the
first lap before he was over taken by Artie Pedersen on lap 2.
Pedersen's stay in second was also short lived as on lap 3
"Jumping" Jack Handley moved by and set his sights
for leader Broy. But just as the race hit the 10th lap
Handley's car began to fade and this allowed Tommy Walkowiak
to race under Jack for second on lap 11. Walkowiak then
methodically closed in on Broy and heading into turn one on
lap 14, Tommy dove under Russell for the lead and the eventual
win.
With just under three laps to go Ron
Langdon slipped by Broy for second and had hopes of reeling in
Walkowiak, but there were not enough laps left. At the
conclusion Tommy Walkowiak in the C&A Auto Parts racer
scored the win with Ron Langdon of Wantagh second in the Stock
& Carr Attorney's At Law machine. Russell Broy of Bethpage
was third in the Island Trees Automotive mount.
Once again when the checker flag waved
on the Grand Enduro "Dynamite" Danny Webster of
Copiague was first over the line in the Allstock Auto Parts
Chevy. The 50 lap win was his third of 2003.
In a 75-lap 8 Cylinder Enduro Dominic
Ranieri of East Northport took the win in the Local Cesspool
entry, The nightcap, a 30-lap sprin, fell to Walter Stroud Jr.
of Yaphank in the Peanuts Bar & Grill Chevy.
Pat Verwys Jr. of East Stroudsburg, Pa
won the 4 Cylinder Enduro in a 60 lap contest, while John
Cozza of Medford won his third of 2003 in the 4/6 Cylinder
Truck Enduro in the Island parts Outlet racer. Paul Fox of
Riverhead triumphed in the One-On-One Spectator Drags.
