RIVERHEAD MODIFIEDS AND LATE MODELS HAVE
IMPORTANT DATE SEPTEMBER 6TH
Both the NASCAR
Modified and Late Model classes of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly
Series at Riverhead Raceway have an important date to look
forward to on Saturday evening September 6th. Each class will
race in their third and final double point race of 2003, with
the NASCAR Modifieds set for 75-laps, while the Late Models
will contest in 50-laps of racing.
Time trial qualifying will be held for
both divisions and the main events themselves could go a long
way in determining the champions from each. Heading into
mid-August John Fortin was atop the NASCAR Modified rankings
with Chuck Steuer, Wayne Anderson, Tom Rogers Jr. and Ed
Brunnhoelzl Jr. in tow. If any of those four drivers are going
to make a run at Fortin, they will have needed to start prior
to the 75-lap tilt, but this race could play a pivotal role.
J.R. Bertuccio, Ken Heagy, Dan
Jivanelli, Lenny Fischer and Frank Vigliarolo Jr. were in the
top ten as of press time, but all five would need quite a bit
of misfortune to strike the top five and a run of good
finishes for themselves.
The Dart Fuel Oil night 50 for the
Late Models will without question have a major impact on the
2003 championship as Glenn Tyler and Peter Eriksen were
separated by just two points heading into competition August
16th. Chasing the tandem in the top five are Roger Oxee, Dave
Brigati and Scott Kulesa fill out the top five and will need
some good runs prior to and including the 75.
Greg Kleila, Kevin Metzger, Doug
Wholey, Jarrod Hayes and Dennis Krupski complete the Late
Model top ten as of mid-August and will need to play catch-up
heading into September.
Joining the September 6th program will
be the MortgageOne night for the Chargers with the Figure
Eights, Blunderbusts and Super Pro Trucks rounding out the six
for one show.
Time trials for both the NASCAR
Modifieds and Late Models will start off qualifying procedures
at 4:30 pm, with feature event action taking the green at 6:30
pm.
