RIVERHEAD NATIONAL DEMOLITION TITLE WORTH $1,500 SEPT. 20TH

Drivers and cars will be smashing and crashing their way to the National Demolition Derby Championship Saturday night September 20th and the last car and driver moving will walk off not just with the prestigious title, but also $1,500 in prize money. In addition on the Miller Lite night program will be a 50-lap Charger and Blunderbust races along with Super Pro Trucks and Figure Eight action and a School Bus Demolition Derby.
Demolition Derby veterans always look forward to this big event and several have indicated they'll be towing from as far away as Florida.  Track officials announced that there will be no heats and everyone on hand will go into the feature providing the car count does not get too high. Also officials wanted to let everyone know the Chrysler Imperial is an approved car for 2003.
All the top Riverhead regulars will be out in force to try and keep the $1,500 home with Bob "Whiplash" Genovese of South Farmingdale and Jimmy "Wildman Primmy" of Bay Shore heading up that roster. Other hometown favorites include Tim "Hammer" Smith of Port Jefferson, "Irish" Mike O'Keefe of Islip, Eugene Malverty of Lindenhurst, Mike Rommeney of Maspeth and "Jumping" Joey Palmeri of Lindenhurst.
Expected to invade from the south will be two former Long Island residents and veteran Demo drivers, Scott McNamee of Raleigh, North Carolina and George "Moe" Knauer from the Sunshine State of Florida. Also expected is Jimmy Mann of Raynham, Ma. Who has been in several Riverhead events previous.
It was disclosed today that Victory Fleet Maintenance and Eddy's Trailer Sales would sponsor the 50-lap Blunderbust feature event, which is a non-point time trial race. Also Bob Finan hinted that a sponsor is near on the Kings Cup 46 Super Pro Truck feature and an announcement should be forthcoming soon.
The 50-lap Charger contest and the 25-lap Figure Eight event, both non-point races remain in need of sponsors and interested parties can call the track office for further details by asking for Bob Finan.
Added excitement will come in the form of the second Full Size School Bus Demolition Derby of 2003 and with the children just back to school it's a sure bet they won't be disappointed when the buses are smashed and crashed before their eyes.
Time trials will kick-off qualifying at 4:00 pm with the feature races to commence at 6:00 pm. For additional information please call the track office at 631-842-RACE or visit our website at www.riverheadraceway.com.
