RIVERHEAD TO
HOST SWAP MEET AND CAR SHOW ON OCT. 26
A staple in Long
Island auto racing will continue at Riverhead Raceway Sunday
October 26th when the annual Long Island Automotive Swap Shop
will be staged in the pit area of the quarter mile oval. Added
to the day long event for 2003 will be a Custom Car and Hot
Rod Show, the second of its kind at the track in 2003.
Annually the Long Island Automotive
Swap Shop finds owners and drivers selling either complete
cars or their parts and everything in between. A tradition
started back at Islip Speedway by the late "Big" Bob
O'Rourke is continued by current Riverhead Chief Steward Bill
Denniston and is geared towards racers who are either looking
to sell or buy.
One of the cars on the market that
might be at the Swap Shop if not sold prior is the NASCAR
Modified of Chris Young. Also Bill Rosskamp's Late Model
and several Blunderbusts including "Jumping" Jack
Handley, Chris Chirico, Kevin Clarke and two time division
champion Eugene Malverty will be there. Spare parts, wheels
and racecar trailers both open and enclosed should also be
available.
Admission for vendors is just a mere
$20 per spot. Those coming just to shop around are
charged just $5 to enter the pits. There is no need to
purchase vendor space ahead of time.
As for the Custom Car and Hot Rod
Show, entry for cars will be just $10 and again those just
looking around will pay a nominal fee of $5. Wayne Shortmeyer,
who along with Bill Denniston put together the first show for
the Custom Cars and Hot Rods in August, announced that
trophies would be awarded in various categories of the show,
which will take place side by side with the Swap Shop.
Registration for the show will be held only the day of the
event at the track, no pre- registration.
Currently there is no Eastern Kart
Racing Association event planned for the day.
