RIVERHEAD RACEWAY 2003 POINT FUND TO BE DISTRIBUTED SATURDAY

Riverhead Raceway owners/promoters Barbara and Jim Cromarty announced today that some $46,088 in 2003 point fund money will be distributed Saturday night at the Melville Marriott when they host the annual NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series awards banquet. The top ten drivers in six divisions will walk away with checks from the fund.
Like so many short tracks around the country part of the annual Riverhead Raceway point fund is driven on a per tire sold basis and with numerous rain-out dotting the 2003 schedule the point fund is off some 20% from 2002. Hoosier Tire Distributor JYD Enterprises add five dollars per tire sold to the point fund of all six classes of racing. "If it's raining and you can't race, teams don't buy tires and your point fund falls off" track spokesman Bob Finan offered.  However of the $46,088 point fund, $22,000 comes directly from promoters Barbara & Jim Cromarty, which has nothing to do with tire sales.
The top ten in the NASCAR Modifieds will split a $14,688 point fund with 2003 champion John Fortin of Holtsville taking a large portion of that sum, while Glenn Tyler of Hampton Bays the 2003 Late Model champion will grab a handsome check from their $10,600 point fund.
For the second consecutive year Tom Rogers Jr. of Patchogue will be feted as Figure Eight champion and the 2002 and 2003 kingpin of the exciting brand of racing will earn a nice piece of the $5,740 point fund. Popular "Dynamite" Dan Turbush of Hampton Bays will be honored for his second career Charger title and take home a nice part of their $7.050 point fund.
Eugene Malverty of Lindenhurst and Danny Grennan of Glen Cove are two more drivers repeating their 2002 championships in 2003. Malverty took the Blunderbust crown once again and will take home a major portion of their $3,870 fund, while Grennan grabs a check from the $3,540 Super Pro Truck point fund.
Peter Bertuccio of Bohemia and Scott Schelin of Southold also scored their second straight Train Race championship and will split $600 for their efforts.
The 2003 Riverhead Raceway point fund is sponsored in part by Barbara and Jim Cromarty, Hoosier Tire East, JYD Enterprises, Merkel Racing Engines, McBetts Racing Engines and Chuck Deon Race Engines. At this time both the officials and competitors of Riverhead Raceway would like to thank all those participating point fund sponsors
