JOHN FORTIN
RECLAIMS BIG BROTHERS AND BIG SISTERS DRIVERS CUP
Among
the many honors bestowed upon John Fortin of Holtsville this
Saturday night during the Riverhead Raceway awards banquet,
the 2003 NASCAR Modified champion will reclaim the Big Brother
& Big Sisters of Long Island Driver's Cup. Fortin won the
inaugural Big Brothers & Big Sisters award in 2001.
After winning the 2001 Riverhead
Raceway NASCAR Modified title John Fortin and his crew
embarked on a full effort on the NASCAR Featherlite Modified
Series but midway through that season Fortin and his team
realized where they needed to be in 2003.
"It takes an awful lot to run the
FMS full time," John disclosed on more that one occasion
"all of my crew have full time jobs and I'm a self
proprietor and getting away for days at a time for my guys is
just too much". Therefore the decision to return to
Riverhead Raceway full time in 2003 was made.
"Riverhead Raceway is home,
always has been always will be and it's nice to race in front
of family and friends who root you on week in and week
out" Fortin offered "don't get me wrong though.
There is a ton of pressure those final few races when you're
racing for the championship" Watching John over the final
month in the Honda of Riverhead/Bike Shop of Coram Chevrolet
you'd never know it!
"It's going to be an honor to
accept the Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Long Island
Drivers Cup at the banquet and to have it on my mantel again
for another year" Fortin concluded. J.R. Bertuccio won
the cup in 2002.
Many veteran competitors and fans
alike agree that John Fortin is an aggressive yet smart points
racer and is usually in the mix for the track title year in
and year out. With two NASCAR Modified championships now in
his possession to go along with numerous Figure Eight titles,
they are proven correct.
