NASCAR FEATHERLITE MODIFIED SERIES WELCOMES NEW
SPONSORS
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 12, 2004) –
Things are looking up for the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series.
Five additional contingency sponsors have joined the series, posting
more than $43,000 in new post-season awards. Racing suppliers Comp
Cams, CV Products, Holley, MAC Tools and Mechanix Wear are the
latest companies to partner with this unique series, which features
NASCAR’s oldest and only open-wheeled racing division.
The addition of these new sponsors
brings the total contingency sponsor awards available to Featherlite
Modified Series drivers to $107,000, a $39,500 increase over 2003.
Along with these awards, Featherlite, the official trailer and
luxury coach of NASCAR, will post $100,000 towards the 2004
Featherlite Modified Series championship point fund.
“The Featherlite Modified Series
has been a fantastic tradition over the past 20 years,” said Chris
Boals, NASCAR’s director of regional touring. “We’re pleased
that these great companies – which are some of the top names in
motorsports – have recognized the unique and exciting blend of
racing that is found in this series, as a place to market their
products while supporting the teams and drivers.”
Anheuser-Busch, Edelbrock, Hoosier,
JE Pistons, Moroso, Ohlins, POWERade and Stef’s return as
Featherlite Modified Series sponsors and will contribute nearly
$63,000 in contingency awards. Anheuser-Busch, through its Budweiser
brand, posts an additional $400 per race for the winner of the Bud
Pole qualifying award and POWERade, the official sports drink of
NASCAR, posts $500 per race for the POWERade “Power Move of the
Race” award. The POWERade “Power Move of the Race” award is
presented to the driver who advances the most positions from their
starting position at each race.
Auto Meter, a Sycamore, Ill.-based
manufacturer of high performance instruments and gauges, will also
sponsor the rookie of the year award for the Featherlite Modified
Series. The Auto Meter rookie of the year award includes a $3,000
bonus plus a complimentary package of Auto Meter products to the top
rookie driver in 2004.
Along with these contingency awards,
special awards and the championship point fund (which will be paid
to the top 20 eligible drivers in the final point standings),
Featherlite Modified Series competitors will race for more than
$940,000 in prize money at 19 events – for a grand total of nearly
$1.24 million in awards for the 2004 season. The Featherlite
Modified Series, which celebrates its 20th season in 2004, opens
April 4 at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway with the
traditional running of the “Icebreaker” 150.
