NASCAR FEATHERLITE MODIFIED SERIES WELCOMES NEW SPONSORS

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 12, 2004) – Things are looking up for the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series. Five additional contingency sponsors have joined the series, posting more than $43,000 in new post-season awards. Racing suppliers Comp Cams, CV Products, Holley, MAC Tools and Mechanix Wear are the latest companies to partner with this unique series, which features NASCAR’s oldest and only open-wheeled racing division.

The addition of these new sponsors brings the total contingency sponsor awards available to Featherlite Modified Series drivers to $107,000, a $39,500 increase over 2003. Along with these awards, Featherlite, the official trailer and luxury coach of NASCAR, will post $100,000 towards the 2004 Featherlite Modified Series championship point fund.

“The Featherlite Modified Series has been a fantastic tradition over the past 20 years,” said Chris Boals, NASCAR’s director of regional touring. “We’re pleased that these great companies – which are some of the top names in motorsports – have recognized the unique and exciting blend of racing that is found in this series, as a place to market their products while supporting the teams and drivers.”

Anheuser-Busch, Edelbrock, Hoosier, JE Pistons, Moroso, Ohlins, POWERade and Stef’s return as Featherlite Modified Series sponsors and will contribute nearly $63,000 in contingency awards. Anheuser-Busch, through its Budweiser brand, posts an additional $400 per race for the winner of the Bud Pole qualifying award and POWERade, the official sports drink of NASCAR, posts $500 per race for the POWERade “Power Move of the Race” award. The POWERade “Power Move of the Race” award is presented to the driver who advances the most positions from their starting position at each race.

Auto Meter, a Sycamore, Ill.-based manufacturer of high performance instruments and gauges, will also sponsor the rookie of the year award for the Featherlite Modified Series. The Auto Meter rookie of the year award includes a $3,000 bonus plus a complimentary package of Auto Meter products to the top rookie driver in 2004.

Along with these contingency awards, special awards and the championship point fund (which will be paid to the top 20 eligible drivers in the final point standings), Featherlite Modified Series competitors will race for more than $940,000 in prize money at 19 events – for a grand total of nearly $1.24 million in awards for the 2004 season. The Featherlite Modified Series, which celebrates its 20th season in 2004, opens April 4 at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway with the traditional running of the “Icebreaker” 150.
