FREEPORT DRIVER, JOHNNY LOMAX PASSES AWAY

Johnny Lomax passed away suddenly of a massive heart attack Thursday afternoon. John was 56 years young.

John had retired to North Carolina with his wife of 38 years, Vicki, last year, after 27 years with the NYC school system.

John competed at Freeport in the Golden era of Freeport and the Campi era. He drove in the bomber and VW divisions pre Campi, and bomber division Campi era.  He was the chief wrench of Bob Viala's 1974 bomber championship car(s). He and Bob also built the first successful ramp for the rollover contests held at Freeport.
