NASCAR MOVES RIVERHEAD RACEWAY INTO EAST COAST
REGION
Riverhead Raceway promoters Barbara
and Jim Cromarty disclosed recently that they've been notified
by NASCAR that the quarter mile oval will be part of the East
Coast Region for the 2004 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series. NASCAR
also announced that the total post-season awards for the 2004
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series has increased to 1.7 million
dollars among 67 member tracks.
The past few seasons found Riverhead
Raceway in the ultra competitive New England Region, which
produced two former national champions during that time in Ted
Christopher and Peter Daniels. John Fortin of Holtsville the
2003 NASCAR Modified champion at Riverhead placed 7th in the
New England region, as did Late Model champion Glenn Tyler of
Hampton Bays. Tyler was in the ShorTrack Series.
Completing the East Coast Region are
Jax Raceway, Langley Speedway, Myrtle Beach Speedway,
Ogelthorpe Speedway, Old Dominion Speedway, Southampton Motor
Speedway and Wall Township Speedway. The East Coast Region was
formed for tracks that hug the coastline of the United States.
Wall Township Speedway and Riverhead Raceway are the only two
tracks north of the famed Mason-Dixon Line.
The driver and team winning the East
Coast Region championship at the conclusion of the NASCAR
Dodge Weekly Series will earn up to $45,000, with the National
Champion earning an additional $125,000 for a handsome total
of $170,000.
The 2004 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series
will run from Saturday evening April 24th through Saturday
September 11th at Riverhead Raceway. For further information
please contact the track office staff at 631-842-RACE or log
