NEETS SOPHOMORE SEASON OPENER MAY 16
The North East Enduro
Tour Series (NEETS) will be opening the doors of Mountain
Speedway, St. Johns, Pa. on Sunday, May 16th for its
season opener in it's second season running. This will be the
first of 10 points races run in Pa, NY, and NJ for the series
in the vie for new 2004 championships. The pits will open at
10am with practice sessions starting at 12:30. The 4cyl
Car/Truck Mini series will be on the line at 2pm for a 100 lap
battle with the 150 lap 6/8 cyl Tour Car "main
event" immediately following.
Mountain Speedway is one
of the tours favorite tracks because of it's size, location and
the accurate NASCAR type transponder scoring. The first race
will also see the usage of the scanner system where the race
director will be in contact with all drivers choosing to use
the radios. This is optional for now but eventually be made
mandatory for safety purposes.
The 4cyl Car/Truck
division will be racing at selected tracks throughout the
season and those that are NEETS members will be eligible for
the Championship. A Mini Series Champion will be crowned along
with the top 5 receiving trophies and point fund monies at the
2004 Banquet. In the 6/8 cyl Tour Car division, the top 10
will share in the point fund plus trophies and a brand
new champion will be crowned.
2003 NEETS Champion Ray Fitzgerald from Long Island, NY
will not be defending his title as he has announced he is
building a new garage and coming back strong in 2005. He will
however be helping the tour and some other NEETS drivers in
the current season.
Other familiar names
and stars of the series will be returning to fight for the
championship including; Richard "Uncle" Petey, Racin
Rich Johnson, Howie "Dr. Destruction" Bott and many
other of the past season personalities. There are also many
new members signing such as Joe "millionaire"
Jentile, winner of the $2000 purse at the 2003 NEETS BRE
250 in October.
When asked, Billy
Bartley (tour series promoter) commented "We are getting
new members every week, mostly from drivers that followed the
tours success last year and liked how we operate and treat our
members. The cars and the racing is very affordable. They are
basically stock cars with safety equipment. This series
is great for the person whose job or funds keeps them
from weekly racing. We are also getting a few first time
drivers looking to get seat time taking steps to move up in
the future and what a better way to get a lot of seat time
then in a 100 or 150 lap race. Many of your successful top
division drivers today started out in the Enduros".
If you are looking for
the fun and competition in racing and don't want to blow the
family budget, check out this series. The people are
wonderful, the racing is great, and visiting all the new
tracks each 3 or 4 weeks is like a mini vacation with friends.
You do not have to be a member
to participate in any NEETS races. Anyone with a legal car can
race in any of the events, but to run for the
Championship points and to receive many of the benefits of the
tour, you must have a NEETS license.
The next event after
Mountain Speedway will be held at Kauneonga Speedway in White
Lake, NY on Sunday, June 13th for a 150 lap 6/8 cyl Tour Car
race and a 100 lap 4cyl car/Truck mini series event.
