RIVERHEAD MODIFIEDS READY FOR JULY 3 CROMARTY CUP

The quest for the 2004 NASCAR Modified championship at Barbara and Jim Cromarty's Riverhead Raceway will start the second half of a 19-race slate with the Cromarty Cup 50 Saturday night July 3rd. The double point race will be the 10th of a scheduled 19 races for the Dodge Weekly Series at the historic facility and could very well play a major role in who wins the coveted 2004 championship.
Midway through June defending NASCAR Modified champion John Fortin of Holtville currently enjoys a 30-point bulge over Tom Rogers Jr. of Patchogue.  Going into the June 19th card Fortin hopes to use the Cromarty Cup contest to further distance himself from the field. Other drivers in the top ten as of mid-June who are looking to narrow the cushion include Lenny Fischer, Ed Brunnhoelzl Jr., Mike Andrews Jr., Dan Jivanelli, Bill Park, J.R. Bertuccio, Wayne Anderson and Joe Hartmann.
Time trial qualifying will be in effect for the Cromarty Cup 50, which will be part of the annual Fireworks Independence Day spectacular that will feature the first ever Police Car Demolition Derby. Never before has a Police Car Demolition Derby been presented on Long Island and between that event and the huge Fireworks display this is a don't miss show for 2004.
Rounding out the stock car portion of the show will be the death-defying Figure Eights along with Charger and Blunderbust racing. Time trials for the NASCAR Modifieds will start at around 4:00 pm, with the first feature taking the green at 6:00 pm. In the event of rain there is a Sunday July 4th rain date for this show.
