RIVERHEAD'S
BUSIEST NIGHT COMING JULY 31
Without
question the busiest night of the 2004 Riverhead Raceway
schedule will unfold Saturday night July 31st. In
addition to the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series there will be an
8-Cylinder Enduro making for a action packed seven for one
program. The Super Pro Trucks will also race for the
Trailer Transport trophy.
Donaldsons VW of Sayville has been
providing Riverhead Raceway with a pace vehicle since 1989 and
this will also be their official night. The NASCAR
Modifieds will race in their third and final double point race
of the season. The 2004 title chase is a tight one with
defending champion John Fortin of Holtsville third in the
ranking heading into action as of this date.
Out to dethrone Fortin are Tom Rogers
Jr. of Patchogue and Mike Andrews Jr. of East Quogue who sat
ahead of Fortin going into July 17th. Also in the hunt are J.R.
Bertuccio of Centereach and Bill Park of Manorville who sit
just off the pace of the leading trio.
Also on the NASCAR roster for action
will be the Late Models, Figure Eights, Chargers, Blunderbusts
and Super Pro Trucks. Charger owners and drivers should note
the first release of the 2004 schedule in late 2003 had this
listed as an off night but that was changed and the class will
run a regular 20-lap main event!
After all the NASCAR excitement is
over it will be time to go 8-Cylinder Enduro racing. The
8-Cylinder Enduro is the original form of Enduro racing that
started at Riverhead nearly 20-years ago and continues to
provide thrills and spills. Walter Stroud of Yaphank and
Dominic Ranieri of Northport are just two of many past winners
out gunning for the gold.
The action packed card will start with
NASCAR modified time trials at 4:00 pm. Feature event
racing to will commence at 6:00 pm or perhaps a tad earlier if
all qualifying is complete. This will assure a timely
completion of a very, very busy night.
