RIVERHEAD
200 SET FOR FMS ON AUGUST 7
The
NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series will return to Riverhead
Raceway for a return engagement Saturday August 7th to compete
for the $67,303 purse in the Riverhead 200. The Charger
and Blunderbust divisions will also see action that night.
Jerry Marquis of Broad Brook, CT who
dominated the June running of the Miller Lite 200 at the
quarter mile oval will be among the favorites. The former FMS
champion will aim for a clean sweep in 2004. Among his rivals
on the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series will be Eddie Flemke
of Berlin, CT., Tony Hirschman of Northampton, Pa, Ted
Christopher of Plainville, CT. and Rick Fuller of Auburn, Ma.
Leading the "Long Island
Gang" into action August 7th will be 20-year FMS veteran,
"Tiger" Tom Baldwin of Bellport, L.I. Baldwin has
hinted, but has not made an official announcement about
retiring from the FMS at the end of 2004. If the outspoken
talent makes the field he could very well be running his final
FMS race on his home turf. Tony Ferrante Jr. of Franklin
Square, Donny Lia of Jericho and Kevin Goodale of Riverhead
hope that being at their home track will lead them to victory
lane as well.
As always a tough contingent of
Riverhead Raceway regulars will be loaded for bear when the
FMS hits town with defending track champion John Fortin of
Holtsville leading the charge. Joining him from the NASCAR
Dodge Weekly Series will be J.R. Bertuccio of Centereach,
Wayne Anderson of Yaphank and Chris Young of Riverhead.
Twenty-eight cars will start the
Riverhead 200. Twenty-three will transfer from time
trials with five provisionals allotted to the NASCAR FMS
regulars. Qualifying will start at 4:30 pm for the Blunderbust
and Chargers, with the NASCAR FMS time trials set for around
5:45 pm. Feature event racing will start at the conclusion of
time trials.
