LONG
ISLAND RACING REUNION SET FOR AUG. 29
Since its inception a few years ago
the annual Islip Speedway, Freeport Stadium and Riverhead
Raceway reunion has become a popular mainstay event at
Riverhead Raceway. The 2004 edition is set for Sunday
August 29th.
Spearheaded by Bill Denniston of
Riverhead Raceway and Marty Himes of the Himes Museum of Auto
Racing Nostalgia the 2004 reunion is shaping up to be the best
ever. Many cars from days gone by will be on hand including
the famed #1 Coupe and Vega of "Charging" Charlie
Jarzombek, the late great former five-time Riverhead Raceway
champion. The X-3 Vega of "Gentleman" Jim
Hendrickson is also expected, as is the former Axle Anderson
coupe and many, many more cars from the golden era.
It is also expected that the New
England Antique Racers club (NEAR) will be on hand, as this
reunion is not just limited to Long Island stock car racing,
but all of New England and the Eastern Seaboard as well. If
you have a racecar or are a driver from days gone by you don't
need an invitation, all you need to do is show up at Riverhead
Raceway Sunday August 29th at 10:00 am.
Joining the Long Island Racing Reunion
will be the Eastern Kart Racing Association go-karts and many
more added attractions that will be announced in the next few
weeks.
