RAINS
SETUP MARATHON THIS UPCOMING SATURDAY
Heavy rains from the remnants of
hurricane Ivan stormed through Riverhead Raceway late Saturday
morning flooding much of the facility and forcing promoters
Barbara and Jim Cromarty to postpone the Miller Lite night
racing. What the rain did was set-up a marathon season finale
this Saturday September 25th, which will find a combination of
two shows in one.
The September 18th program, including
the Full Size School Bus Demolition Derby and the National
Demolition Derby will be incorporated into this weeks Enduro
series program. An energetic undertaking to say the least, but
Barbara and Jim Cromarty knowing how much the Chargers and
Blunderbusts look forward to the 50-lap, non points races did
not want to disappoint drivers in those classes, as well the
Figure Eights and Super Pro Trucks.
The schedule will be as follows for
Saturday September 25th. Pit gates will open at 10:00 am, with
practice for the four stock car divisions to start at 11:45.
Spectator gates will swing open at 1:00 pm. Times trials for
the Chargers, Blunderbusts and Super Pro Trucks will go green
at 2:00 pm, with feature events for all three to follow and be
joined by the 25-lap non-point Figure Eight feature. That will
take care of the stock car portion of the rained-out program
from this past Saturday.
Then the Enduro program, including the
12-lap NY Team Federal Credit Union Train Race will be
presented. In order to save time the 2nd 8-Cylinder Enduro
will now be incorporated into the first 8-Cylinder race and
the Car Rollover Contest has been canceled. Joining the
8-Cylinder Enduro will be the Grand Enduro, 4-Cylinder Enduro,
4/6-Cylinder Truck Enduro and the 6-Cylinder Enduro, which may
be combined with the 8.
Once all the Enduro racing has been
completed it will be time to wreck some Full Size School Buses
in a Demolition Derby, as "Slim" Jim Donaldson of
Shirley looks for a clean sweep in 2004 in the wild and
entertaining event. Last, but certainly not least will be the
annual National Demolition Derby Championship as the best of
the best from the tri-state area will fight to the finish with
a $1,500 payday on the line for the winner.
In the event of rain Saturday
September 25th, this entire show will be run Sunday September
26th with the pits opening at 10:00 am. A quick round of stock
car practice would start at 11:45 if the Sunday date is needed
and the time trials would be moved up to 12:30 pm on the rain
date.
