2004 LATE MODEL GRADE REPORT
by "Professor" Peter Milano

Well it's that time once again, after a long wait, the Professor has finally returned to grade our favorite racers at Riverhead Raceway! The Professor, Peter Milano, has looked over the entire 2004 racing season at Riverhead Raceway and has decided what grades will be given out to the top 20 drivers in each division. Each division will be graded at different points during the off season, which means, competitors will be chomping at the bit to get their grades! The 2004 Modifieds were handed out first and now its time for the Late Models.

1) GLENN TYLER
#28 Spring & Summer Pontiac

The 2004 Late Model Champion had one of the strongest years out of any division in 2004 at Riverhead Raceway. Glenn had 14 top tens out of 15 races, with 10 of them being in the top five and bringing home 4 wins in 2004. Glenn is one of the most exciting drivers to watch towards the final few laps of a race. With the nickname “Sniper” from yours truly, he’s got the swift cat reflex in a small bullring which results in not causing much rumble amongst his fellow competitors. Tyler, seemingly goes unnoticed without beating and banging through a race but in the end his presence is felt. The familiar saying across the backstretch is “Where the heck did Tyler come from?” 2004 was truly an impressive year for the MVP of Riverhead in 2004!

A++
15 races, 4 wins, 10 top 5's, 14 top 10's

2) DAVE BRIGATI
#1x WPW Growers Dodge

How many classes does Dave Brigati race in or is associated with? In 2004 Dave Brigati played bridesmaid in both the Late Model class and Super Pro Trucks, finishing 2nd in points. Competing in all 15 races, Brigati had 12 top tens, 9 top fives and 2 wins in the Late Model class. “The Fancy Farmer” or the new ”Mayor of Riverhead Raceway” had a great season  in 2004.

A+
15 races, 2 wins, 9 top 5's, 12 top 10's

3) JARROD HAYES
#08 Paul Signs Chevrolet

J-rod really stepped it up in 2004. He continued to impress the fans and drivers with his skills behind the wheel, learning and showing improvement in every year he’s raced. It seemed J-rod was going to have a bad year in 2004 with his car being on the shelf for a lot of races. However, Brigati loaned his backup car and J-rod took his only win of the year in the backup machine. J-rod managed to make every race in 2004. 15 races with an impressive 12 top tens and 8 top fives. For his effort of not giving up, he worked hard and earned A+.

A+
15 races, 1 win, 8 top 5's, 12 top 10's

4) ROGER OXEE
#39 The Helman Group Pontiac

Oxee certainly started off on the wrong foot, with gas fuel pump problems hindering him early on. He sorted through his engine through endless hours until he found the problem and corrected it. He had the ability to take the championship, but Tyler outshined the entire field. Roger had a rough season, including losing his mother, but Oxee overcame odds and came out to even take the win for her. Roger made every race with 12 top tens, 7 top fives, and 2 wins.

A+
15 races, 2 wins, 7 top 5's, 12 top 10's

5) MIKE MORTIMER
#14 SPONSORS WANTED Pont
.

At the start of the season it looked like the driver to beat was “Mighty” Mike. 15 races, 11 top tens, 7 top fives and 2 wins is not too shabby of a record. Mortimer is one of the fan favorites to watch and chill with after the races and had a great year despite Hooters Pro Cup plans which fell through at the last minute. The “Mighty” Mike crew worked hard to get his car in tip-top condition for the start of the year and did a great job.

A+
15 races, 2 wins, 7 top 5's, 11 top 10's

6) SCOTT KULESA
#10 Ranco Sand & Stone Pontiac

In a good year for Scott, it wasn’t enough to be as impressive as the 5 drivers in the Late Model class. A former Late Model champion, he had a lot to prove and took down 1 win, 8 top fives and 11 top tens. He showed hints of greatness in 2004, but seemed to be a victim of other drivers’ mistakes.

A
15 races, 1 win, 8 top 5's, 11 top 10's

7) ROB TRIBUZIO
#01 Prestigious Prop.Pontiac

Pulling double duty at Riverhead in 2004, Rob finished 7th in the Late Models and 4th in the Charger division.  Making all 15 races, he had 8 top tens and 5 top fives. Rob showed his aggressive side in a few races and cost himself a few positions in the field and maybe even the points. But, it’s Rob’s aggressiveness that keeps him pushing towards higher goals, including a modified deal in 2005.

B
15 races, 0 wins, 5 top 5's, 8 top 10's

8) SHAWN PATRICK
#88 SPONSORS WANTED Chevy

Patrick earned one of the more surprising wins of 2004 in the white and blue #88.  After a 2003 season of missing races and being bit by the little engine gremlins, he came back and drove hard in 2004.

B
15 races, 1 wins, 3 top 5's, 7 top 10's

9) SEAN PATTERSON
#8 Zoumas Homes Pontiac

After a strong rookie season, Sean seemed to take the learning curve south. I was really looking forward to a stronger year in 2004, but with teammate Buzzy Eriksen being up in Thompson most weekends, Sean lost his mentor at the track and it showed. 2 top fives and 10 top tens. Hopefully 2005 will be the year Sean proves that 2004 was only a fluke!

B-
15 races, 0 wins, 2 top 5's, 10 top 10's

10) GREG KLEILA
#72 J&R's Steakhouse Pontiac

A surprising 10th place finish in points for a driver who has been a championship contender in the past few years. He did take down 1 win, 3 top fives and 10 top tens. I look for a strong rebound in 2005.

B
15 races, 1 wins, 3 top 5's, 10 top 10's
