Of the five
divisional champions that make-up up the NASCAR Weekly
Dodge Series at Riverhead Raceway joining the NASCAR
Modifieds weekly, all five champions from 2004 will
return to defend their championships in 2005.
The curtain will go up on the 2005 season at Barbara and
Jim Cromarty's quarter mile Saturday evening April 30th
with a full six for one card.
Glenn Tyler of Hampton Bays will look to make it
three Late Model titles in a row for car owners John &
Sheryl Heather. He'll be a strong contender in the
25-lap opening night main event. Among those expected to
test Tyler for the crown this year are Dave Brigati,
Jarrod Hayes, Roger Oxee and "Mighty" Mortimer. Also a
threat to contend is Scott Kulesa, Rob Tribuzio, Shawn
Patrick, Sean Patterson, Greg Kleila and Kevin Metzger.
After a great campaign in 2004 when he won his fifth
career Riverhead Raceway title on the strength of nine
victories, Roger Maynor of Bay Shore will again be the
man to beat in Figure Eight action. Out to stop Maynor
will be George Sprague, Bill Steen, Ken Darch, Paul
Specht, Tom Kraft, Ken Hyde, Arne Pedersen, Tom Ferrara
and Will Farrell.
"Dynamite" Dan Turbush of Riverhead will be gunning
for his third consecutive Charger championship and
fourth overall in his storied career in 2005. Ironically
enough some of his toughest competition will come from
within his family from brother Rusty and son Chris. Also
out to derail Dan will be Eric Lutz, Brad Van Houten,
Chris Beutler Mike Bologna, Chris McGuire and Robin
Vollmoeller.
"Slick Pick" Tom Pickerell of Centerport looks to
back-up his first career Blunderbust champion from 2004
with a repeat performance in 2005. Plenty of drivers
will be out to keep Pickerell from repeating and among
them are, Eugene Malverty, Doug Watson, Scott
Maliszewski, Bill Wegmann, Artie Pedersen, Wayne Okula,
Scott Pedersen, Tommy Walkowiak and the returning Tom
Slee.
Super Pro Truck kingpin Lou Maestri of Deer Park
enjoyed his first career championship during the
off-season, but is now ready to get back to work. Among
those out to wrestle the title away from Lou are Dave
Brigati, Danny Grennan, Bryan Sescila, Mike Albasini,
Troy Ferdinando, Frank Dumicich Sr & Jr. and two new
drivers Bobby Gardner and Brian McElearney.
After a long winters wait the NASCAR Dodge Weekly
Series will roar into action Saturday night April 30th
with qualifying at 4:30 pm and feature event racing set
for 6:00 pm.
