DOUG COBY SETS HIS SIGHTS ON SIZZLER
It has been called
“The Greatest Race in the History of Spring” and its list of
winners reads like a Modified Racing Hall of Fame. Its rich
history and tradition has transformed its identity into one
word: “Sizzler.”
The Tech-Net Spring
Sizzler presented by Carquest Auto Parts at Stafford Motor
Speedway in Stafford Springs Conn., is scheduled for April
23-24. It will be the second race of the 2005 NASCAR Whelen
Modified Tour.
Among the nearly 50
drivers entered for the 200 lap event is Doug Coby of
Milford, Conn. Coby began his racing career at Stafford
driving a Late Model in 1996. He has driven Pro Stocks and
been a winner in Stafford’s NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series
premier class, the SK Modifieds.
Coby is looking forward to
the Tour’s first race of the season at Stafford and hopes it
will be the site of his first series victory.
“It’s my home track”,
said Coby. “I enjoy racing at all the speedways our series
races at but with over 100 starts at Stafford I feel I have
more experience there than any other track.”
Coby, in his third full
season on the Whelen Modified Tour, has joined forces with
1993 champion car owner Curt Chase and the No. 77 Red Line
Oil Chevrolet race team for 2005. The pair actually ran
there first race together in the series finale at Thompson,
Conn. last fall. At the Icebreaker earlier this month Coby
earned a 9th place finish.
“We’ve only had two
races together and both were Top-10 finishes, “ said Coby.
“This is a championship team and I believe we’ll have a very
strong year together.”
Coby, defending Sizzler
winner Jerry Marquis and Icebreaker winner Ted Christopher
will be just some of the drivers trying to gain one of the
33 starting positions up for grabs. The green flag is
scheduled to drop at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, April 24.
