The 2005
Riverhead Raceway schedule indicates that this Saturday
night May 7th is just the second week of the
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series, but for the teams in the NASCAR
Modified division it will feel like mid-season. A 50-lap
double point main event will highlight the six-division
program at Barbara and Jim Cromarty’s historic oval.
Time trials
will determine the first portion of the starting grid and
hitting a good qualifying lap could very well be pivotal as
to how one’s night is going to be. Tom Rogers Jr., the
defending NASCAR Modified champion will be among some 25 to
30 drivers striving for that perfect lap in time trials. The
race will be the first of three double point paying races of
the 2005 campaign with the annual Cromarty Cup 50 on July 2nd
and the July 30th Tom Baldwin Memorial 77 by
Unique Golf completing the double point slate.
Joining Tom
Rogers Jr. in NASCAR Modified action will be Wayne Anderson,
Ken Heagy, Bill Park, Chris Young, Dan Jivanelli, Chuck
Steuer, Mike Andrews Jr., Jimmy Blewett, John Denniston,
Lenny Fischer, Sal Accardi Jr. and Dave Sapienza just to
name another dozen stars who’ll call Riverhead Raceway home.
Joining the
“Mod Squad” will be the Late Models, Figure Eights,
Chargers, Blunderbusts and Super Pro Trucks. Tim trials for
the NASCAR Modifieds will go green at 4:30 pm with feature
event racing being presented at 6:00 pm.
