MILLER LITE 150 WORTH $71,195
Armed with a new sponsor for 2005
the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour is heading to Long Island
Saturday June 4th for the Miller Lite 150 at Barbara and Jim
Cromarty's Riverhead Raceway. For the first time since the
inception of the tour concept in 1985, the Riverhead shows
will be less than 200-laps, however the Miller Lite 150 will
be worth some $71,195 in prize money, the richest ever at
Riverhead.
Jerry Marquis of Broad Brook, Ct. won the Miller Lite
200 in 2004 and in fact dominated the race, lapping all but
six cars in the 28-car field. Marquis will be in a new ride
for his defense of the Miller Lite hardware, as he will
drive for famed car owner Bob Garbarino in the Mystic
Missile #4. Early season winners on the NASCAR Whelen
Modified Tour, Ted Christopher of Plainville, Ct. and
defending tour champion Tony Hirschman of Northampton, Pa
are tested tough at Riverhead and know the way to the
Winner's Circle. Donny Lia of Jericho has won two career
NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races at his former home track
and he'll be tough as well.
With a base winner's share of $6,000 on the line and
some additional $5,000 plus in the purse the action should
truly be hot and heavy in a race that has been shortened
some 12.5 miles. Many veteran drivers feel the 50 fewer laps
will give the fans more action earlier on in the race, as
gone may be the days of riding the first 100 laps of the
race to conserve tires for the final 50.
Joining the Miller Lite 150 will be the Riverhead
Charger and Blunderbust divisions. For further information
