WALT DEMORRIS MEMORIAL CHALLENGE COMING THIS OCTOBER

Walt DeMorris, a Riverhead Late Model competitor known for his gentle smile and big heart will be remembered this upcoming October in what could be the Northeast’s biggest Late Model race.  The Walt DeMorris Memorial Challenge will be held on October 21-22, 2005 at Mountain Speedway (PA) and will feature a 100-lap Late Model race to honor the late DeMorris along with a Street Stock 50-lapper.

Walt DeMorris, whom passed away this past October, was remembered for not winning the most championships, nor winning the most races, but for winning the hearts of those whom were privileged to have known him.  DeMorris was the epitome of the low-buck racer, whom crewed, sponsored, and drove his own effort 99% of the time.  The Walt DeMorris Memorial Challenge is to honor his dedication to the sport along to spotlight the division he loved so much, the Late Models.

The Walt DeMorris Memorial Challenge, promoted by Bartley Racing Enterprises and RacerHub Ventures, will consist of a 100-lap Late Model race and a 50-lap Street Stock race.  The event will be a two-day event, as on Friday, practice will be held to acquaint drivers with a track that they may have not had much experience on.   For the Late Models, Saturday will feature registration, tech, time trial qualifying, consis, B-main (for 10+ cars), and the 100-lap feature for the Late Model fleet.  The Street Stocks will feature a similar schedule, but instead of time trials, the Street Stocks will qualify via heats and will have no B-Main.

Rules will be opened up to competitors around the Northeast.  Rules will be released in the near future and will provide provisions to keep the diverse field of cars on a level playing field.

While the purse has not yet been finalized, it is promising to be one of the best paying Late Model races the Northeast has seen for quite some time.

Registration is now open, and you may register online via the official Walt DeMorris Memorial Challenge website at www.waltdemorris.com.  The field is expected to be large and registrations may be capped, so register early and secure your spot in the race.

Stay tuned to your local media outlet or the official website at www.waltdemorris.com for more news on this exciting event.  It will be one to remember for years to come.
