MINI
BUS RACE AND DEMO HIGHLIGHT 3M NIGHT
The 3M night festivities
this Saturday night June 25th at Riverhead Raceway will find the Mini
School Buses and 8-Cylinder Demolition Derby drivers making their 2005
debut during the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series program. The Barrasso & Sons
Mason Supplies Memorial for the Figure Eights will spotlight the stock
car portion of the card.
Ever since his untimely death in a Figure Eight race at Islip
Speedway in May of 1982, “The Wrench” Ernie Maynor has been honored with
this annual race sponsored by Barrasso & Sons Mason Supplies of Islip
Terrace. As per usual Ernie’s son Roger, a five time Riverhead Raceway
Figure Eight champion will be going full bore for the win along with
George Sprague, Tom Kraft, Bill Steen, Ken Darch, Ken Hyde, Arne
Pedersen, Will Farrell, Tom Ferrara and George Brown. The race will be a
20-lap contest and the Suffolk Association of Figure Eight Racing will
also present their annual trophy to the deserving winner.
Joining the Figure Eight troops will be the NASCAR Modifieds, Late
Models and Blunderbusts. All NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series main event
winners will walk off with a handsome trophy from 3M, one of the many
marketing partners for the nationwide NASCAR short track series.
After all the excitement of the NASCAR stock cars has been
wrapped-up it will then be time for the Mini-School Buses to hit the
quarter mile oval for a 12-lap race on the Figure Eight course. It will
be the third consecutive season for this wild and crazy event where
anything can and usually does occur. After this race for the Mini School
Buses this Saturday the machines will then be destroyed in a Mini Bus
Demolition Derby one month later on July 23rd.
The traditional 8-Cylinder Demolition Derby warriors have been
chomping at the bit since September to wreck some cars at Riverhead
Raceway and all the regulars including Tim “Hammer” Smith, Bob
“Whiplash” Genovese, Jimmy “Wildman” Primmy and many others will go toe
to toe for the win and 3M Trophy.
Qualifying will start at 4:00 pm Saturday night with the feature
event racing to get the green flag at 6:00 pm. For additional
