TOUR SET
FOR RIVERHEAD 200 AUGUST 6
The cars and stars of the
NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour are set for another visit to Barbara & Jim
Cromarty’s historic Riverhead Raceway Saturday night August 6th for the
Riverhead 200. Some $71,345 will be up for grabs among the 28-cars that
take the green flag at the demanding quarter mile facility.
Ted Christopher of Plainville, Ct. will be looking for a Riverhead
clean sweep in the 200, already winning the Miller Lite 150 back in
June. After that 150-lap contest Barbara & Jim Cromarty got together
with Ed Cox and Don Hawk of NASCAR to go back to the 200-lap distance
for the second stop for the traveling tour.
Before Christopher could lay claim to the Miller Lite victory he had
to hold off both Eric Beers of Northampton, Pa and Donny Lia of Jericho,
L.I. who tested “TC” often and hard late in the race. Donny Lia is the
defending race winner and in fact has won the last two August races in
front of family and friends at his former home track.
Among other WMT regulars out to score Riverhead 200 glory will be
Jerry Marquis of Broad Brook, Ct., Tony Hirschman of Northampton, Pa,
Jamie Tomaino of Howell, N.J, Chuck Hossfeld of Ransomville, N.Y., and
Rick Fuller of Auburn, Ma.
As always a strong contingent of Riverhead Raceway NASCAR Dodge
Weekly Series regulars will be loaded for bear when the WMT visits with
Chuck Steuer of Bohemia, Howie Brode of East Islip, Wayne Anderson of
Yaphank and Bill Park of Manorville ready for action. Not since 1995
when Ed Brunnhoelzl Jr. won a June race has a Riverhead regular taken a
win on their beloved home turf.
The Chargers will run for the Timothyhalpin.com night trophy in a
20-lap feature event, while the Blunderbusts will race a 30-lap, double
point main event. Heats for those divisions will start at 4:30 pm, while
WMT time trials set for 5:45 pm. The Blunderbust feature will start
right after the time trials.
