Lexington, NC: Wayne Anderson of Yaphank, NY passed John
Fortin to earn an emotional victory in the 1st
Annual Tom Baldwin Memorial at Riverhead Raceway on Saturday
night. The win in the prestigious event also earned
owner/driver Anderson a guaranteed starting spot in the 3rd
Annual North-South Shootout TM scheduled for November 4&5,
2005 at Concord Motorsports Park in Concord, NC.
Another owner/driver Gene Sharpsteen of Waverly, NY survived
11 restarts and led all 75 laps in the SST Modified
Mid-Season Championship event held on July 23, 2005 at Tioga
Motorsports Park to earn himself a spot in the SK Modified
portion of the North-South Shootout TM.
“We are very excited to have the SST Modifieds as part of
the Shootout excitement,” said Chad Kepley of C&C Racing
Promotions. “Chris (Zacharias-SST Promoter) has been great
to work with. He has really gone the extra mile for us and
for his competitors. It is this kind of teamwork that has
made the Shootout so successful for the last few years.”
Both drivers will receive a solid oak table courtesy of C&C
Racing Promotions to commemorate their qualifier victories.
Anderson joins 2004 Turkey Derby Winner John Blewett III of
Howell, NJ as a guaranteed starter for the 100-lap Modified
race from the North. Brian Loftin of Lexington, NC and
Jason Myers of Walnut Cove, NC both won Modified qualifiers
down South in their family-owned cars to also earn
themselves spots in the Shootout. Loftin scored a victory
in the Southern Modified Tour event at Caraway Speedway on
July 1st while Myers won the Firecracker 150 at
Friendship Speedway on Independence Day.
There are three additional starting spots up for grabs for
the northern Modified competitors. Upcoming events for the
Modifieds include the August 18, 2005 Whelen Modified Tour
event at Thompson International Speedway and the Lake Erie
event for the Race Of Champions Modified Tour on October
8&9.
Recently it was announced that the True Value Modified
Series would receive a qualifier as well. An agreement was
made between C&C Racing Promotions and Jack Bateman of the
True Value Modified Series to add the August 20, 2005 event
at Seekonk Speedway to the list of qualifying events. The
decision was made to the applause of the strong field of
True Value Modified Series competitors.
“The True Value Modified series is emerging as a very strong
player in the Northeast,” said race founder Charles Kepley
of Lexington, NC. “We are honored to have them join us for
the North-South Shootout again in 2005.”
The winner of LSB 150 for the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series
competitors at the famed Bowman Gray Stadium on August 20,
2005 will get the third southern guaranteed spot for the
Modifieds.
After a decision by the management of the Concord
Motorsports Park in Concord, NC to cancel the Whelen
Southern Modified Tour event originally scheduled for
October 8, 2005, the future of the final Southern qualifier
remains unknown. C&C Racing Promotions will make a formal
announcement as soon as possible.
Gene Sharpsteen adds his name to the impressive list of SK
Modified competitors already qualified for the Shootout.
Ted Christopher of Plainville, CT earned the Mystique
Motorsports team a spot by winning at the Spring Sizzler at
Stafford Motor Speedway while a pair of Wall Speedway
competitors has guaranteed their owners a spot in the big
show. Defending Modified champion Kevin Flockhart of
Jackson, NJ earned a spot in the Shootout for car owner John
Scisco of Farmingdale, NJ by virtue of his win in the Larsen
Brothers Memorial held at Wall on June 11, 2005. Car owner
Jeff Willett earned his spot when Steve Reed took down a
victory on night seven at New Smyrna Speedway back in
February.
The two remaining SK Modified spots will be awarded through
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action up north. On August 25,
2005, the Independent Truck Services 50-lapper for the
Sunoco Modifieds will also carry a starting spot. As will
the NASCAR Weekly Series action for the SK Modifieds at the
Waterford Speedbowl on September 24, 2005.
The North-South Shootout
TM is a 100-lap Modified
race that features the best Modified drivers from both north
and south of the Mason-Dixon Line on the famed half-mile
tri-oval of Concord Motorsports Park. The sister SK
Modifieds will take on a supporting role with their 50-lap
main event. Like the Modifieds, qualifying for the SKs will
also include time-trials, heat races and a non-qualifiers
event. The Thunder Roadsters and the ever-popular vintage
Modified contingent will be part of the two-day racing
extravaganza as well.
