Sunday Racing At Riverhead Dominated by First Time Winners
Sunday
afternoon of Labor Day weekend at Riverhead Raceway found three
drivers making their first visit to victory lane, while Bob
Pease of Medford made a triumphant return to the winner’s circle
in the Grand Enduro.
In the 40-lap Grand Enduro Bob Pease left little doubt as to
who was going to win as he quickly moved out front at the drop
of the green flag and never looked back in a dominating
performance in his BV Sprinklers Chevy.
In the first 8-Cylinder Enduro, a 100-lap contest Robert
Petraglia of Farmingdale was one of three drivers earning their
first ever victory. Petraglia in the Long Island Towing machine
had waited 15-years for this moment which he enjoyed to its
fullest.
Also earning first career wins were Russ Jansen of Medford
who won the 40-lap tilt for the 4/6-Cylinder Trucks in his
Chapel Auto Wreckers truck. Richie Auer of Bethpage scored the
win in the 4-Cylinder Enduro in his Auer Auto Body mount, a
career first in just his third start.
Two drivers who are no strangers to winning Enduro races at
the quarter mile found their way to victory lane as Walter
Stroud Jr. of Yaphank won the second 8-Cylinder Enduro in his
Peanuts Bar Chevy in a 50-lap race. Steve Elicati of Ronkonkoma
won another 6-Cylinder Enduro in his SMF Trucking racer.
Don Carasiti of St. James scored another Spectator Drag win
as well.
