Lexington, NC: Plans for the 3rd Annual
North-South Shootout TM are progressing nicely as
support from the racing community continues. New entries
are being received every from competitors in all divisions
while early ticket purchases have been strong for the event
scheduled for November 4&5, 2005. The sale of lap
sponsorships has picked up and general sponsorship is very
promising.
The level of support proves that the North-South Shootout
TM has earned its place as one of the top Modified races
in the country. Since it’s inception in 2003 the race has
earned national attention along with it a level of
prestige. Last years race winner Donny Lia of Jericho, NY
called it the “biggest win of his career”.
“It is the incredible dedication of the Modified racing
community and our fine family of sponsors that allows us to
continue with what has quickly become a tradition,” said
Dale Wolbrink, who works on the event for C&C Racing
Promotions.
The event is a throwback of sorts and is sure to provide the
very best that Modified racing has to offer.
The North-South Shootout
TM is a 100-lap Modified
race that features the best Modified drivers from both north
and south of the Mason-Dixon Line on the famed half-mile
tri-oval of Concord Motorsports Park.
For the first time, the popular SK Modifieds will be part of
the excitement of the North-South Shootout TM.
The gathering of noted open-wheel talent that competes at
the Shootout looks like a “who’s who” of racing.
“The list of drivers from all divisions grows everyday,”
said race owner and promoter Charles Kepley of Lexington,
NC. “We have gotten entries from drivers who have never
competed at the Shootout before and from those drivers who
are making their second and third appearances at the race.”
A number of championship drivers have already submitted
entries including six-time Bowman Gray Stadium Champion Tim
Brown of Cana, VA, True Value Modified Series superstar Kirk
Alexander of W. Swanzey, NH; multi-time Modified champion
Pete Brittain of Oakhurst, NJ and former Modified Tour
champion Jamie Tomaino of Howell, NJ. A complete list of
entered drivers can be found on www.northsouthshootout.com.
An impressive field of SK Modified is starting to build as
well. The line-up includes championship contenders like
Thompson Speedway’s Jeff Malave of S. Windsor, CT and the
Waterford Speedbowl’s Rob Summers of Vernon, CT. Prominent
drivers like Tom Fox of Plainfield, CT and Woody Pitkat of
Stafford, CT have also filed entries. Support from New York
and New Jersey competitors has been strong including the
husband/wife team of Patti and Billy Pruitt of Owego, NY
along with Tom Weist, Rich Mongeau, and Tommy Farrell. A
host of others are expected.
“I hear things like ‘I wouldn’t miss the Shootout’ from a
lot of different people,” continued Kepley, “and that is
very gratifying. It means we are doing something right.”
The success is due in large part to the commitment of Kepley
and his staff. Kepley and his son Chad, who also has a
major role in the Shootout, have been burning up the
roadways in their efforts to promote the event. In recent
weeks the avid race fans have traveled to Tioga Motorsports
Park for the Speedway’s final event, to Thompson
International Speedway for the Sunoco 300 and most recently
to Oswego Speedway for the “Race of Champions” to help
generate interest from both competitors and fans. The
dynamic duo shows no signs of slowing down.
A number of sponsors have already announced their return to
the 3rd Annual North-Shootout TM including
Hoosier Asphalt South and DMC Auto Exchange. New sponsors
for 2005 include CVS Pharmacy and the Joie of Seating.
Several major sponsorship announcements are expected over
the next few weeks.
