Seasoned Veterans Capture 2005 Riverhead Titles
It is said that life begins at 40, well that is certainly
true at Riverhead Raceway. Three of the six NASCAR Dodge Weekly
Series champions are over 50 years old and the average age of
the 2005 titlists is 48.5. All six champions will be feted at
the 2005 Riverhead Raceway Victory Celebration Saturday night
November 5th at the Riverhead Polish Club.
NASCAR Modified champion Bill Park of Manorville took his
second championship at 58 years of age, eight seasons after his
first crown in 1997 and just months after his 50th birthday.
Next among the “seasoned” champions is “Dynamite” Dan Turbush of
Riverhead who for the third year in a row won the Charger
championship at age 54. Rounding out the over 50 gang is Late
Model champion Roger Oxee of Peconic, who at age 53, enjoyed his
first ever track championship in 2005.
First time Blunderbust champion Scott Maliszewski of Deer
Park enjoyed his accomplishment at age 47, while Lou Maestri of
Deer Park collected his second consecutive Super Pro Truck title
at age 44. The youngest among the six NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series
champions is first time Figure Eight champion George Sprague who
is 35 years.
In noting how experience rose to the top in all six
divisional titles in 2005 track PR Director Bob Finan noted, “we
are very blessed at Riverhead Raceway to have a fantastic core
of young up and coming drivers that race in all six classes
weekly, several who are still under 20”. Finan, who is 47
himself, added, “It just shows the importance of experience and
with that, more often than not, comes patience”.
Bill Park will lead the 2005 “parade of champions” at the
2005 Riverhead Raceway victory celebration on November 5th.
Aside from crowning all the champions, the top ten in points
will receive point fund checks and there will be plenty of
special awards along the way.
Tickets for the Victory Celebration are just $35 per person
and are now available at the track business office in Copiague.
To order tickets please call 631-842-RACE Monday through Friday
