Walt DeMorris Memorial Challenge Gaining Steam
The Walt
DeMorris Memorial Challenge coming within one week, on October
22, 2005 at Mountain Speedway, is becoming one of the biggest
Late Model races of the year. Over 40 Late Models have been
entered, featuring many champions and multi-time winners in the
field. And now a purse boasting $2,000 to win, the Walt DeMorris
Memorial Challenge will attract the cream of the crop of North
East’s Late Model racers.
The Walt
DeMorris Memorial Challenge comprises of a Walt DeMorris
Memorial 100 for the Late Models and Mountain Challenge 50 for
the Street Stocks. A practice day will be held during the
evening of Friday, October 21, 2005 and the next day, Saturday,
October 22, 2005 will comprise of qualifying – time trials and
consis for the Late Models, heats and consis for the Street
Stocks, along with the features.
For those who may be wondering, the
race is dedicated to the late Walt DeMorris. Walt passed away
last year in October and was remembered for not winning the most
championships, nor winning the most races, but for winning the
hearts of those whom were privileged to have known him.
DeMorris was the epitome of the low-buck racer, whom crewed,
sponsored, and drove his own effort 99% of the time. The Walt
DeMorris Memorial Challenge is to honor his dedication to the
sport along to spotlight the division he loved so much, the Late
Models.
The hefty purse of $2,000 to win for
the Late Models has no commercial backing, as it was fully
funded by the DeMorris family, friends, and co-workers. This is
just one testament to the impact Walt DeMorris has had on the
lives of those whom he knew. In addition to the hefty purse,
lap sponsors will be contributing an extra $1,000 plus to the
final purse to richen the take home bounty.
The Street Stocks will also have a
lap sponsorship program and the Street Stocks will be boasting a
$750 to win feature. The Street Stocks promise to be a great
event as well with former champions and multi-time winners in
attendance.
With less than
a week away for the race, now is the final chance to sign up and
