"John Boy and Billy are icons in the south," said race promoter,
Charles Kepley. "They have done a lot for the sport of auto
racing and entertainment in general. We are honored to have the
continued support of those boys, their company, and the
long-time sponsors, Pabst Blue Ribbon. "
John Isley and Billy James first gained prominence in the
Charlotte area with their hugely successful radio show "The Big
Show". Now in syndication in over 100 markets throughout the
United States, the show combines humor and music with celebrity
interviews and character satire. The "Big Show" is steeped with
auto racing traditions including weekly call-ins from Nextel Cup
winners.
Today the John Boy & Billy holdings also include Big Show Foods,
Inc., which specializes in foods with a southern flair including
their famous barbeque sauce. Big Show Foods, Inc., through
their product John Boy & Bill Genuine Spring Water, along with
Pabst Brewing Company will combine to present 100-laps of green
flag racing for the Modifieds.
Pabst Blue Ribbon is the flagship beer of the Pabst Brewing Co.
of San Antonio, TX. "Since 1844, the original Pabst Blue Ribbon
Beer has used the choicest of nature's products to provide its
prized flavor." Today it is known as a great beer at a great
value.
"We really owe a lot to Dr. Tom Brewer, " continued Kepley. "He
is the driving force behind the sponsorship. His enthusiasm for
the race has been a huge asset for us. "
A stellar field of Modified competitors from both north and
south of the Mason-Dixon Line have already pledged their support
of the two-day event scheduled for November 4&5, 2005 at Concord
Motorsports Park in Concord, NC.
Ted Christopher, aboard the Ralph Solhem #0, will vie for his
first Shootout win against the likes of defending race champions
John Blewett III and Donny Lia. Eric Beers knocked on the door
of victory lane in 2004 and might just be a favorite to win this
year. Doug Coby, Jamie Tomaino, Wayne Anderson, Zach Sylvester,
Kirk Alexander, Bob Polverari, and Pete Brittain will be joined
by the best of the best in Northern Modified racing. The
southern contingent may have their best shot yet at a Shootout
victory with the likes of Jay Hedgecock, Junior Miller, Tim
Brown, the Myers Brothers-Burt and Jason, and many others in
field.
In the SK-type Modified division, New York and New Jersey
drivers dominate the roster with standouts like John & Jimmy
Blewett, Gene Sharpsteen, Earl Paulus, Kevin Flockhart, Rick
Kluth and many more scheduled to take the green in the
first-ever visit of the SK Modifieds to the North-South Shootout
(TM) New England notables ready to take on Concord
include Ronnie Silk, Richard Savary, Tommy Cravenho, Frank
Ruocco and up-and-coming talent Keith Rocco. A number of
drivers will be doing double duty including Christopher, both
Blewetts, Paulus, and Brittain. For a complete roster of
