The 2005 Riverhead
Raceway awards banquet is still two weeks away, but that did not stop
promoters Barbara and Jim Cromarty from announcing the 2006 opening
weekend dates at the quarter mile facility. Saturday night May 6th will
kick off the 2006 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series with six divisions of
racing, while the Enduro series will open the very next afternoon May
7th.
Traditionally over the years the Riverhead slate has opened on the
last Saturday of April. However, the way the calendar in 2006 shapes up
and the fact that there will be just one NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour
race the season will be able to start the first week of May. The opening
weekend will be proceeded by two pre-season practice dates on Saturday
afternoon April 22nd and again Saturday April 29th.
In addition to the August 5th stop of the NASCAR Whelen Modified
Tour the open wheel machines will also take part in the 2nd annual Tom
Baldwin Memorial 77, a single point time trial race on Saturday July
29th. Three double point races will also be on tap for the NASCAR
Modifieds in 2006, as well for the Late Models, Figure Eights, Chargers
and Blunderbusts.
A full array of family entertainment events are a big part of the
2006 schedule including Fireworks, Monster Trucks, Full and Mini School
Bus Figure Eight races and Demolition Derbies, Police Car Demo and Taxi
Cab Demo just to name some.
The entire 2006 Riverhead Raceway schedule will first be released to
the public on Saturday November 5th at the track’s Victory Celebration
at the Riverhead Polish Club in the Riverhead Racer program.
Once released at the banquet the entire 2006 schedule will be
available on
www.riverheadraceway.com.
