Every year not just those in the running for an award, but also all in attendance anticipate the naming of the special award winners at the annual Riverhead Raceway NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series awards banquet. The 2005 Riverhead Raceway Victory Celebration will be no different, as plenty of special award winners will be announced on Saturday November 5th.
    Four divisions will name Rookie of the Year winners with the NASCAR Modifieds, Late Models, Figure Eights and Chargers all honoring a freshman driver for their first year efforts. A Most Improved Driver will be named in the NASCAR Modified and Figure Eight divisions as well.
    A Best Appearing Car and Owner of the Year will be named in all six divisions including the Blunderbusts and Super Pro Trucks who do not have a Rookie of the Year category.
    The Best Dressed Crew award will be presented to one race team that stood out above all others in every division in 2005 and the 2005 Mechanic of the Year will also be named.
    Promoters Barbara and Jim Cromarty will present the prestigious 22nd annual Cromarty Dedication & Service to Riverhead Raceway to a deserving recipient. The list of the 21 previous winners of the award reads like a virtual who’s who of Long Island auto racing.
    The special awards portion of the banquet will take place after the annual “parade of champions” honoring the champions of the 2005 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series and the distribution of point fund checks among the top ten in points for the season.
