NASCAR VETERAN JIMMY SPENCER TO APPEAR AT JENNERSTOWN

JENNERSTOWN, PA … Veteran NASCAR Nextel Cup competitor Jimmy Spencer will be making a guest autograph signing appearance at Jennerstown Speedway on Saturday evening June 17 when the Whelen Modified Tour invades the Somerset County half-mile paved oval for the Wheeler Bros. 100.

A native of Berwick, Spencer is the only active Pennsylvania driver currently racing in Nextel Cup, and is one of only a handful of drivers to have won a race in all three of NASCAR’s top divisions. (Nextel Cup, Busch, and the Craftsman Truck Series).

Spencer is no stranger to the Laurel Highlands speed plant, having competed here in the NASCAR modified class when he captured national championships in 1986 and 1987.

Nicknamed ‘Mr. Excitement’ since his modified years for his aggressive driving style, Spencer has made 476 Nextel Cup starts over the past 17 seasons with two wins to his credit. He also has accounted for 28 top-five and 80 top-10 finishes along with three poles. Spencer has also annexed 12 Busch Series victories and one Craftsman Truck win.

Spencer also currently serves as a co-host on SPEED Channel  television pre and post race Nextel Cup shows (NASCAR Race Day and NASCAR Victory Lane).

Joining the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will be Jennerstown’s four NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series classes, running a features only format. Completing the evening’s agenda will be a vintage race display by the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing and the induction of the 2006 class into the Jennerstown Speedway Hall of Fame. There will also be a racing reunion for all former Jennerstown competitors and officials.

Advance $15.00 discount tickets will be available through June 15 on-line at www.jennerstown.com, or by calling 1-888 695-0888. Gate admission for adults on race day will be $25.00. Kids (age 12 and under) will be admitted free.

Spectator gates will open at 200 pm, with the first race slated to start at 5:00 pm. Modified time trials will begin at 4:00. A rain date for the event has been set for Sunday, June 18.
