Five Champions Enter Jennerstown
NASCAR Modified Race
Daytona Beach,
FL — Based on recent history
the prohibitive favorite is
Hirschman. The Northampton
driver is a five-time Tour
titlist, winning back-to-back
crowns the past two seasons.
Additionally Hirschman has also
captured the last two WMT events
contested at the half-mile paved
Laurel Highlands oval, including
last years thriller when he
nipped former NASCAR Craftsman
Truck competitor Chuck Hossfeld
at the finish line by inches.
Stefanik is also a prime
contender for victory lane
honors. The
Coventry, Rhode Island driver is
the winningest competitor in
NASCAR modified division
history, with 67 victories to
his credit. A former Jennerstown
winner, Stefanik has picked-up
three checkered flags, two in
the WMT modifieds, and one in
the NASCAR Busch East series.
Stefanik has returned to the
modifieds on a full-time basis
this year, and responded by
winning the season-opener at
Thompson, Conn.
Szegedy, the Tour’s 2003
champion, has also returned to
the open-wheel division,
following an attempt to land a
competitive ride on the NASCAR
BUSCH Series circuit.
Aside from the modified century
grind there will be a feature
event only program for the
Jennerstown NASCAR Dodge Weekly
Series Courtesy Suzuki super
late models, WJAC-TV late
models, Advance Auto Parts
street stocks and the hobby
stock division.
Veteran NASCAR Nextel Cup driver
Jimmy Spencer, a former two-time
WMT champion in the 1980’s, will
also be on hand to participate
in an autograph session
beginning at 6:30 pm.
Additionally the Eastern Museum
of Motor Racing (EMMR) will
present a static and on-track
vintage race car exhibition. The
speedway will also induct the
late Ivan Baumgardner, Fuzzy
Rubritz, Johnny Grum, Milt
Miller, Turk Burkett, Jim Nave,
Charlie Cragan and Bill Awtey
into the Jennerstown Hall of
Fame during the evenings
activities.
A reunion of former Jennerstown
Speedway competitors will be
held at the EMMR vintage car
display. Former drivers are
asked to contact the speedway at
814 629-6677 to secure
credentials. Anyone with
Jennerstown Speedway memorabilia
is welcome to share at the
display area.
Advance $15.00 discount tickets
for the event are available
through June 15 on-line at
www.jennerstown.com, or by
calling 1-888 695-0888. Tickets
may also be purchased at the
speedway office (cash
transaction only). Gate price
for adults will be $25.00 the
day of the event. Children, age
12 and under, will be admitted
free of charge.
