Sylvester Scores First Pole Of The Season At NHIS

    Zach Sylvester of Lebanon, Conn. earned his second career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Bud Poe Award by setting fast time in Qualifying for Saturday’s New England 100 at New Hampshire international Speedway. Sylvester toured the 1.058 mile superspeedway in 30.326 seconds for an average speed of 125.595 mph in the TASC Country Homes Chevrolet.
    “To come here and put the car on the pole is huge,” said Sylvester. “This gives a boost to the whole team.”
    Jimmy Blewett of Howell, N.J., runner up in the last series event at Stafford, Springs, Conn., was second fastest in qualifying with a speed of 125.409 mph in the T.S. Haulers Chevrolet and will join Sylvester on the front row. Reggie Ruggiero of Rocky Hill, Conn. a six time winner in the series at NHIS, was third fastest with a speed of 125.409 in the Atlantic Sprinklers Chevrolet.
    Defending Series Champion Tony Hirschman of Northampton, Pa. was fourth fastest and Eric Beers, also of Northampton, was fifth fastest. Defending race champion Ted Christopher will start eighth in the race. Current point leader Mike Stefanik will start 24th. NASCAR Nextel Cup Drivers Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart qualified 14th and 21st respectively.
    The New England 100 is scheduled to get the green at 1:10 p.m. on Saturday, July 15.
