John Blewett, III Nabs Second Consecutive
NASCAR
Whelen Modified Tour Win at NHIS
John Blewett, III of Howell, N.J. drove to his second
consecutive NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victory of the 2006 season in the
New England 100 at New Hampshire International Speedway. Blewett passed
James Civali of Meriden, Conn. on the final lap, just prior to the final
caution period occurring, and won the race in a yellow/checkered flag
finish.
It was the 9th career win for Blewett and his third at NHIS.
He led a total of 17 laps in the Blewett Motorsports Chevrolet and was among
nine drivers who swapped the lead 28 times officially in just 100 laps.
Civali, the current Sunoco Rookie of the point leader, earned his career
best finish by placing second in the Ramar-Hall/Liberty Limousine Chevrolet.
Reggie Ruggiero of Rocky Hill, Conn., six time NHIS winner,
was third in the Atlantic Sprinkler Chevrolet. Eddie Flemke of Southington,
Conn. finished fourth in the Red Line Oil /Ron Bouchard Auto Chevrolet.
Current point leader Mike Stefanik of Coventry, R.I. rounded out the Top-5
in the Diversified Metals Chevrolet.
Civali also earned the Featherlite Most Improved Driver
Award. Jimmy Storace was the Powerade Power Move of the race winner.
Tony Stewart finished 9th and Carl Edwards finished 39th.
Both NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers were making their first series start.
