Eric Beers Triumphs at Thompson

    Eric Beers of Northampton, Pa. recorded his first NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victory of the season in the 150 lap Modified Mania at Thompson International Speedway. Beers passed Eddie Flemke of Southington, Conn. on lap 101 and went on to lead the rest of the event. He finished .8 seconds ahead of Reggie Ruggiero of Rocky Hill, Conn.
    It was the second career win for Beers who drives the Roby’s Propane/Cape Cod Copper Chevrolet owned by Janice Boehler. Beers also collected the Featherlite Most Improved Driver of the Race Award. The victory moves him unofficially into the Top10 in the series standings.
    Ruggiero’s second place finish in the Atlantic Sprinklers Chevrolet was his best of 2006. John Blewett, III came from the 23rd starting position in the Blewett Motorsports Chevrolet to finish third and earn the Powerade Power Move of the Race Award. Flemke finished fourth in the Red Line Oil/Ron Bouchard Pontiac and is now unofficially third in the series standings. Tony Ferrante, Jr. rounded out the Top-5 in the Ferrante Racing Chevrolet.
    Series point leader Mike Stefanik finished 9th and now leads Ted Christopher unofficially by 94 points. Christopher finished 28th.
The next race for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour is at New Hampshire International Speedway on Friday Sept 15.
