Summers Back in Mod Tour Action;
Continues in Supermodified
After an unwelcome week off, Rob Summers
and his TG Racing Team will return to NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour action
this weekend for the running of the New Hampshire 100 at New Hampshire
International Speedway. A devastating wreck at the Martinsville Speedway on
September 2nd left the team without a racecar for the Modified Mania event
at Thompson last weekend. The team worked tirelessly during the week to
prepare a brand new Chassis Dynamics chassis (that arrived on Thursday,
September 7) to allow the team to complete the remainder of the 2006 season.
“Guy (Ronzoni) and the whole gang thrashed on the car this
week to be ready for this weekend at Loudon,” said Summers. “We used
whatever parts we had available to finish the car. We are using the nerf
bars off one of my old Tour cars. It might not be the prettiest car in the
garage area this weekend but it should be good.”
Last weekend, all was not lost for Summers, who was able to
compete in the International Supermodified Association (ISMA) Classic at
Star Speedway on Saturday, September 9th. Despite a broke brake line,
Summers wheeled the nearly 900-horsepower machine to a sixth-place finish.
Summers made his Supermodified debut back in May at the
Waterford Speedbowl and has run select dates since for the Lane Racing team.
In July Summers participated in the Wheeler Bros. Twin 30s at Jennerstown
Speedway in Jennerstown , PA earning a pair of 11th place finishes. A month
later, Summers was back aboard the Super at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway
in Mansfield , OH were he finished seventh. His most recent finishes include
an eighth-place finish at Lee USA Speedway in Lee , NH and the sixth place
at Star.
This weekend in addition to his duties in the Modified for
Guy Ronzoni, he will compete in the prestigious ISMA Super Nationals at
Oswego Speedway in Oswego , NY on Sunday.
This is the third time that Summers has done double duty this
season. The Super event at Waterford piggybacked the Mod Tour event at
Stafford as did the trip to Mansfield , OH . In August, Summers participated
in three race events including the Mod Tour event at Thompson on Thursday,
Lee in the Super on Friday, and his own SK Modified at the Waterford
Speedbowl on Saturday.
“This is probably the busiest season I have had since I was a
kid racing go-karts all over the country,” said Summers. “Other than the bad
luck we have had in the Modified it is also probably the most fun I have
had. I am very fortunate to run with two great race teams.”
Summers hopes to turn his luck around this weekend at New
Hampshire International Speedway.
“Loudon has not been real good to me,” said Summers with a
hint of humor. “Maybe this time we can get some luck and get a good finish
and turn our season around.”
Qualifying for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour gets underway
at approximately 2:50 PM on Thursday, September 14th. The New Hampshire 100
is scheduled for Friday at 5:10 PM. The ISMA Super Nationals is scheduled
for Sunday, September 17, 2006.
