THOMPSON READY FOR 33rd ANNUAL XTRAMART WORLD SERIES OF SPEEDWAY RACING
The ultimate racing weekend, The 33rd Annual
XTRAMART World Series of Speedway Racing, is set for its three-day showcase
at the Thompson International Speedway. For months, race fans have had their
sights set on the weekend of October 13th-15th for this annual racing
extravaganza.
Thompson Speedway’s XTRAMART World Series of Speedway Racing
will play host to thousands of race fans and upwards of six hundred racecars
representing fourteen different divisions. The XTRAMART World Series of
Speedway racing is an event like no other anywhere in the country and is
presented by your near-by XTRAMART Convenience Stores.
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, the Super Modifieds of the
International Super Modified Association and the mighty Midgets of the
Northeast Midget Association are the annual headliners for this racing
spectacle. All three of these touring divisions bring incredible,
open-wheel, high-speed racing to fans that don’t get to see these racecars
on a weekly basis. The six NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series divisions, that fans
have come to love in their weekly competition at Thompson, will also play a
major role in the World Series. Add to these divisions, the American Race
Trucks, the Pro Four Modifieds and three “outlaw” divisions of Late Models,
Strictly Stocks and Mini Stocks and you have an incredible variety of racing
activity that will fill this three-day program.
Many divisional championships will be determined at the
XTRAMART World Series and race teams are fully geared up for this final
challenge.
The schedule for events will have considerable practice time
on Friday. Practice will run from 9:30AM until 4:30 PM. Then at 5 PM,
qualifying races will be held for Thompson Modifieds, Mini Stocks, Limited
Sportsman, Pro 4 Modifieds, ARTS Trucks and the three “Outlaw” divisions.
Once qualified, these divisions will prepare for their feature events
beginning about 5:45 PM on Saturday.
Saturday’s schedule has practice from 8:30AM until
2:30 PM. Qualifying will then begin for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour,
ISMA Supers, NEMA Midgets along with Thompson’s Late Models, Sunoco
Modifieds and Pro Stocks. Once these divisions have completed their
qualifying events, those that qualified on Friday will fill the spotlight
with their feature event races.
Sunday, beginning at 12 Noon, the divisions that qualified on
Saturday will be showcased in their feature events. Eight feature races will
be held on Saturday evening and the “big six” will race on Sunday.
The XTRAMART World Series of Speedway Racing is much more
than a racing weekend. Hundreds of fans literally move in for the weekend
and the social side of racing is in full swing. The Raceway Restaurant and
Lounge is open all weekend for food and social gatherings. The traditional
Saturday night dinner and dance has become a must attend event for many. The
Raceway Golf Course and driving range also provide a bonus for those looking
to take full advantage of the offerings at the Thompson International
Speedway complex.
A detailed schedule of the entire weekend’s events is
available on the Thompson International Speedway web site.
