Tony Hirschman Wraps Up 2006 Bud Pole Award Championship At Thompson

    Tony Hirschman of Northampton, Pa. set fast time in qualifying for Sunday’s World Series of Auto Racing Presented by Whelen Engineering and XTRAMART NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race at Thompson International Speedway. It was the fourth Bud Pole Award of the season for Hirschman, the defending series champion, and also locked up the season long 2006 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Bud Pole Award Championship.
    Hirschman toured the 5/8 mile oval in 18.697 seconds for an average speed of 120.340 mph. Ron Yuhas of Groton, Conn. was second fastest with a speed of 120.077 mph. Ted Christopher of Plainville, Conn. qualified third with a speed of 120.045 mph. Defending race winner Jerry Marquis was fourth fastest and last week’s winner Donny Lia rounded out the Top-5.
    The Top-8 qualifiers drew for starting position. Jimmy Blewett and Marquis will make up the front row. Christopher will start third while Hirschman will line up fourth. Yuhas will start fifth flanked by Lia. Current NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour point leader Mike Stefanik will start 12th.
