2005 Super Pro Truck
Review
by J.A.
Ackley, "Professor"
Peter Milano
Well it's that time once again, with the season fast
approaching, the grade reports are rolling in! This year,
not only the Professor has his say, so does the Jam Man - J.A. Ackley.
In addition to the "Jam Panel of Performance Review," we
will give you, the fans, a chance to grade the competitors
as well.
1) Lou
Maestri
#1 Schwing Electric Ford
2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
Maestri, a seasoned
Riverhead Raceway veteran, completed
back-to-back championships, but lacked a win
this year. However, in all 11 starts
he made it in the top 10 each and ever time.
I'll give him an A for his season of hard
work. A |
J.A.
Ackley, Chief Director of LongIslandJam.com |
In one of the first truck
seasons where a dominant competitor wasn't
evident, Maestri still came up top.
Maestri was in the top 10 every race, but
wasn't up front as much in years past,
including a goose egg in the wins column.
I would give him an A+, but unfortunately
without the win, it ends up as an A.

2) Bobby
Gardner
#45 AuctionDepot.org Dodge
2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
Gardner, whom some would
say is the "man who knows how to rub fenders
and beat on bumpers," fared very well in the
Super Pro Trucks for his rookie season.
With a win and 6 top 5's, his downfall was
missing the top 10 in one race which hurt
his championship bid. Expect Gardner
near the lead this year as he earns an A in
my book. A |
J.A.
Ackley, Chief Director of LongIslandJam.com |
Bobby Gardner, new to the
trucks, looked like a fish in water,
comfortably navigating through the field
each and every week. With a win, 6 top
5's, and only one miss in the top 10's, he
earns an A. A |

3) Dave
Brigati
#98x WPW Growers GMC
2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
How Brigati didn't win
the championship, was a hard feat to
accomplish. With 2 wins, and 7 top
5's, he could dominate, but he missed the
top 10 two times, which caused him to miss
the championship. For someone who
drives everything but the ice cream truck,
he does well in everything he does.

Ackley, Chief Director of LongIslandJam.com |
Brigati's big downfall
was consistency. With running both the
Late Model and Charger, plus a plethora of
other racing activities, perhaps Brigati's
teams were spreading themselves thin.
Nevertheless a good run in 2005 which is
very worthy of an A. A |

4) Frank
Dumicich, Jr.
#42 Teddy Bear Racing Chevy
2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
Dumicich Jr. beat out his
father, a former Super Pro Truck champion,
for a fourth place finish. While
Dumicich has improved to a contender for the
win, he has yet to prove he is a contender
for the championship. B |
J.A.
Ackley, Chief Director of LongIslandJam.com |
Dumicich has matured into
a competitive racer after a few season that
left many of us wondering if he was going to
be a permanent back marker. However, I
along with many others, have been impressed
with his progress this past year and are
looking forward to seeing what he does in
2006. A- |

5) Troy
Ferdinando
#9 Troyster Mtrsprts.
Chevrolet
2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
Ferdinando was supposed
to be the "step out star" of 2005.
Early in the season it did seem he would be
the pleasant surprise of the year, but
faltered at the end of the year. The
win saved him from a B-, and thus my grade
is a B. B |
J.A.
Ackley, Chief Director of LongIslandJam.com |
The likeable Ferdinando
at times looked like an up and coming star,
but the bad luck bug hit Ferdinando hard at
the last half of the season. I think
Troy and I both expected better results but
then again his truck was just being driven
to showcase it for sale. B |

Dumicich

2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
Dumicich Sr., a champion
who lost his touch or has put a little too
much effort into his son's team? With only 4
top 5's, and 0 wins, I'm hoping to see
Dumicich move to the front more in 2006. B- |
J.A.
Ackley, Chief Director of LongIslandJam.com |
Dumicich has shone at
times his championship flair, but has failed
to execute on it. While he posted the
same numbers as the previous year, he did
that in a smaller field of trucks. B- |

2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
This was not the season I
was expecting for Sescila. At the
beginning of the season he and the Victory
Fleet team were poised to be championship
contenders and unfortunately fell very
short. B- |
J.A.
Ackley, Chief Director of LongIslandJam.com |
Sescila's year did not
meet many expectations. With a failed
engine program and a myriad of issues, 2005
was a disappointing season for the likeable
driver. Unfortunately I got to give
him a C+. C+ |

Agugliaro
#44 WPW Growers Ford
2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
Agugliaro is going to be
something big in a season or two. This kid
got real good towards the end of the 2005 season.
With quality Brigati equipment underneath
him, look for big things for the youngster
in years to come. B- |
J.A.
Ackley, Chief Director of LongIslandJam.com |
Agugliaro, a protégé of
experienced Riverhead competitor, Dave
Brigati, really began to shine towards the
end of last season. Agugliaro, known
for his hot temper at times in the karts,
really channeled it well last season into
the passion to compete. 2006 looks
bright for this youngster. B- |

9) Dan
Turbush
#10 Dantona Industries Chevy
2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
Turbush and family really
worked hard on this truck, showing that this
truck can win, with a whopping 3 trips to
victory lane. With his move to Florida
postponed for 2006, we're looking forward to
some more Turbush action in the trucks, for
a full season. B |
J.A.
Ackley, Chief Director of LongIslandJam.com |
Dan Turbush has proven he
can win in any vehicle. If the ice
cream truck or his mail truck were
available, expect him in victory lane.
And impressive season to the driver who ages
like fine wine, as he only gets better with
age. B+ |

10) Mike
Albasini
#66 M&M Mtrsprts. Chevy
2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
Albasini tried so hard in
2005, but ended up in the back no matter
what. With only 2 top 5's and 5 top
10's, Albasini was hardly a factor most
nights. Hopefully luck turns his way
this year as it can't get any worse.
C- |
J.A.
Ackley, Chief Director of LongIslandJam.com |
Albasini is capable of
winning, but unfortunately the end results
show quite the opposite. Albasini
needs a good luck charm and then some for
2006, as I hope this year is better. I
have to give Mike a D, but a + for the
effort of coming out each and every week in
a tough year. D+ |
